As we entered the week…

As the final week of the 1935 season began, 12 teams remained in the running for 6 playoff spots in the Uplantic Association.

The Delle Stars led A Division by 2 games over the Prissley Trail Blazers in an up-and-down battle as Week 16 began.

The Miners held a tenuous 1-game lead over the Wight Spiders in B Division, while the Guardians remained 4 games out of first with 6 games left. The winner of B Division would have a losing record, regardless of which team would be the winner.

The Redwood Owls became the first team to lock down a division pennant, winning C Division in Week 15. They would look to hold onto a 3-game lead over the White Sox for the league’s best record and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

As the final week of games began, the Deerborn White Sox led D Division by 3 games over the Taawa Chargers, and held the #2 seed by 2 games over the Delle Stars, which would earn them a bye to the SemiFinal round.

Monday, 9/16/1935

Rivals lefty Howard Ferguson allowed no runs on 5 hits, walking zero and striking out 8 over 7 IP in Railey’s 4-2 win over Roland. Railey LF Howard Tenney left with a back strain. He may be available for the playoffs if the Rivals qualify.
Despite a loss at home to the Herders, the White Sox have clinched a playoff berth. They are currently holding the #2 seed with 5 games remaining in the Regular Season.

Tuesday, 9/17/1935

Prissley C Luis Rokodriguez hit 2 solo bombs in the Trail Blazers 6-3 win over Plains City. The Blazers are still 2 games behind the Stars in A Division.
Rivals 3B Hichem Colle hit 2 HRs for 4 RBI on a 3-for-5 day as Railey won in Roland, 13-6.
Herders starter Victor Silva notched 11 Ks in 7 IP with 1 run allowed on 4 hits and zero walks. Cherricaw won in Deerborn, 6-1.
Kings SS Francisco Ratamos went off at the plate, going 4-for-5 with 2 doubles, a triple, and a 2-run HR for 4 total RBI. The Kings beat the Spiders, 8-2.
Bears CF Myles Williams left with a strained oblique. He will be day-to-day. Platte won at Redwood, 5-1.
With today’s 6-4 loss to the Miners, the Tiny Sea Metros will be unable to escape relegation. After a Windsor Cup Finals appearance last year in their first UA season, they will be headed back to the NPL in 1936.
Despite losing in Taawa, 7-3, the Delle Stars have secured a playoff berth. With 4 games left, they still hope to wrap up the A Division pennant and catch the White Sox for the #2 seed and a first-round bye.

Wednesday, 9/18/1935

With a 4-3 win at home over Plains City, the Prissley Trail Blazers have clinched a playoff berth. They still trail the Stars by 1 game in A Division with 3 games to go in the season.
Northsouth starter Doug Manns went the distance at home against Salvation, striking out 11 batters and walking no one. He allowed 2 runs on just 3 hits and threw 101 pitches. The Guardians beat the Brothers, 6-2, but both teams are out of time to make the playoffs and will look forward to next year.
The Chargers took a 6-5 win at home over Delle. With the win, Taawa clinches a playoff berth. The Chargers can still catch the White Sox in D Division. They trail by 2 games with 3 games to go.

Friday, 9/20/1935

After leading the lowly B Division for most of the season, the Wight Spiders were eliminated from playoff contention today with a 4-3 home loss to the Guardians. The Lia Kompos Miners have won the B Division pennant and will host a WildCard Playoff series despite the fact that they will finish with a losing record.
The Blazers and Stars both won today. Delle remains 1 game ahead of Prissley with 2 games left in the season.
Herders CF Burt Page went 3-for-4 with a double and a HR for 5 total RBI. Cherricaw beat Lia Kompos, 10-1.
Bears 3B Gavin Jones went 3-for-3 with a double and a homer for 4 total RBI. Platte beat Roland, 8-2.

Saturday, 9/21/1935

Herders CF Burt Page has achieved 5 RBI in back-to-back games. This time he went 2-for-4 with a 2-run HR. Cherricaw beat Lia Kompos at home, 9-7.
Spiders C Ferdinand Girard went 4-for-5 with a double and a triple for 4 RBI as Wight beat up on Northsouth, 13-3.
Owls LHP Craig Ogg took his start into the 9th, holding the Reapers scoreless. He allowed 4 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 8 over 8.1 IP. Redwood beat Plains City, 8-0.
Platte starter Oliver Medina notched 11 Ks and allowed just 3 hits and a walk ver 7 scoreless innings as the Bears beat the Stags at home, 4-0. Platte C Bill Hamilton fractured a rib during the game and will miss tomorrow’s season finale.
Trail Blazers 1B Bob Hove and Kings SP Tony Konzalez were ejected for fighting in the 1st of inning of today’s game. Konzalez will be suspended for 6 games and Hove will be suspended for 5 games. This means that Hove will be unavailable for the first 4 games of Prissley’s playoff run. Prissley beat Lia Puedris, 5-2. The Blazers remain 1 game behind Delle in A Division entering the final day of the season. Hove commented on rushing the mound and his subsequent suspension after the game: “I’m disappointed in myself. I let the team down in that moment. We’ve got bigger things going on than my temper. I wish I could take it back.”

Saturday, 9/22/1935

Taawa starter Mark Lia Yorino allowed just 1 hit over 7 innings of work, walking 1 and striking out 5. However, the Chargers went on to lose in Railey, 5-4, after the Rivals rallied for 4 runs to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th. The Chargers’ loss gives the White Sox the 1935 D Division pennant and a bye to the SemiFinal playoff round. Taawa’s closing pitcher, Angel Sankez, will be day-to-day with back spasms as the playoffs begin. Taawa will visit 45-55 B Division winners, Lia Kompos for a best-of-3 WildCard series.
The Delle Stars beat the Tiny Sea Metros, 4-3. The win clinches the A Division pennant for Delle as they chase their 5th straight Windsor Cup championship. The Stars are the 3rd seed and will host division rivals Prissley in the WildCard round.
Bad news for the White Sox today, as starter Jacob Hudson will likely miss the playoffs with shoulder inflammation. Deerborn won at Salvation, 3-1. The White Sox will be the #2 seed and have earned a bye to the SemiFinal Series.
Platte starter Dave Baday pitched 7 scoreless innings, giving up just 3 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 5. The Bears beat the Stags, 2-0.

Stars SS Mario Olivo has won the UA MVP award the last four seasons. He has now won his third batting title in the last 4 seasons, and his second consecutive batting title award. Olivo hit .382 this year, the best single-season average in UA history.

Trail Blazers 1B Bob Hove and Owls LF Steve Thomas have tied for the most home runs this season in the UA with 30 HR each. Hove finished with the most RBI in the league this season with 92, while Thomas finished second with 89 RBI. Bob Hove will miss the first 4 games of the Trail Blazers’ postseason with a suspension for fighting in Saturday’s Regular Season game.

For the second straight season and the third time in his career, Reapers 1B Vance Adegoke has won the UA stolen base title. Adegoke stole 55 bases this year.

Last season’s UA Pitcher of the Year, Railey’s Howard Ferguson, has finished with the lowest ERA in the league this season, allowing 2.20 earned runs per game.
