Delle SS Mario Olivo has been awarded UA Player of the Week for the second week in a row. The 4-time-consecutive league MVP is making his case for another piece of hardware for his trophy case in 1935.
Olivo hit an incredible .636 this week (14-for-22), with 4 HRs and 13 RBI in 5 games. He now leads the league with a .401 average this season.
The Delle Stars remain in first place in the UA’s A Division as they chase their fifth straight Windsor Cup championship.

The 8th UA All-Star game is coming up next week! The game will be held at Craterview Park in Platte on August 9, with the rosters announced two days before, on August 7. The future of the All-Star contest is uncertain, as many fans have expressed displeasure at the change from an East vs. West format last season. The league has not yet announced details of the All-Star Game for next season, leading to speculation that the UA may change or eliminate it. Fan voting is currently underway across Uplantica for this year’s All-Star rosters!

As we entered the week…
The Redwood Owls continued to sit atop baseball as the UA’s number one team with a 36-16 record coming into Week 9. The Owls had allowed the fewest runs of any team this season with 161, 34 ahead of the next best defensive team, the Delle Stars (195 runs allowed).
The Petchon Carp held a 5-game lead over the Carver Canaries as Week 9 began. The Elderwood Lakers trailed the Canaries by just one game for the number two spot. Beginning August 18, the top two NPL teams will play for the National Cup and promotion to the UA for next season.

Monday, 7/29/1935
- Delle SS Mario Olivo went 3-for-5 for 3 RBI and hit his 12th HR of the year, but the Metros took the win in 10 innings, 8-7.
- In an incredible five-plus-hour marathon, the fans that stuck around after midnight at Kostinsky Park enjoyed a White Sox walk-off in the bottom of the 18th on a 2-run blast from LF Juan Tumaini. Salvation starter Kamel Gosselin struck out 9 batters, allowing 1 run on 4 hits over 7 innings in a no-decision. Brothers 2B Trey Ellysian recorded 5 hits in the loss.
- Rivals 3B Fure Len hit a pair of HRs on a 3-for-5, 6-RBI day, while rookie CF Albert Luna also hit two homers for 4 RBI. Railey walloped Taawa on the road, 17-0.
- Prissley starter Marcos Osayaba left after 3 innings with a hamstring strain. He will be day-to-day for the next week or two. Trail Blazers 1B Luis Rokodriguez racked up 4 RBI against his former team as Prissley took the win in Lia Puedris, 6-2.
- Owls CF Bruce Willard came off the bench and went 3-for-4 with 2 homers for 3 RBI and scored 4 runs. Redwood stomped Plains City, 13-2.
Tuesday, 7/30/1935
- Platte SP Eugene Kiteoko pitched 8 1-run innings with just 3 hits allowed, but the Stags rallied with 3 runs in the 9th to send it to extra innings, then walked off int he 13th on a 2-run homer from LF Gurr Gurr.
- Guardians veteran RP Ron Waldman will miss the rest of the season after leaving Tuesday’s game with what turned out to be a torn shoulder labrum. Spiders starter Kevin Leroux pitched in relief, and came out of the game with a finger blister that will be evaluated day-to-day. Northsouth beat Wight, 10-5.
- Owls lefty Craig Ogg pitched into the 9th, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 10 with zero walks issued. Redwood beat Plains City at home, 6-1.
- Prissley ace Pedro Muguerza gave up just 3 hits and zero runs over 6 innings while striking out 7 and walking zero. RF Curt Sawyer continues to struggle for the Blazers. He struck out 5 times in the game and his average has now dipped below .200. Final: PRI 7, LPK 0.
Wednesday, 7/31/1935
- The Kings and Canaries have finalized a cross-league trade that will send 26-year old lefty Allen Thompson to Carver as they push for a National Series berth. Thompson has a 1.79 ERA in 20 appearances this season. The Kings will receive a trio of prospects, including 21-year old pitcher Gustavo Garcika.
- In a big in-division trade, the Blazers have dealt 2B Gerald Lewis to the Stars. The 33-year old Lewis will start at second base. Prissley will receive 27-year old SP Lou Yarbrough in the deal. Both teams have their sights on a playoff berth this season.
- White Sox LF Juan Tumaini hit a double and a home run for 4 total RBI as Deerborn beat Salvation, 6-4.
- Stars 1B Pedro Bausi went 4-for-5 with a double and a HR for 3 total RBI in Delle’s 11-2 win at Tiny Sea. Metros RP Harvey Minahan is dealing with a sore elbow, but has not been added to the IL.
- Rivals rookie CF Albert Luna went 4-for-4 with a 3-run homer. Railey won in Taawa, 9-2.
- Wight 3B Ryad Renaud went off for 3 HRs, going 4-for-5 with 7 RBI in the Spiders’ 13-1 romp in Northsouth.
- Owls righty David Merlet struck out 10 batters, allowing just 1 run on 1 hit in 6 IP as Redwood beat Plains City, 7-2.
Thursday, 8/1/1935
- Delle RP Robert Mason went into the 8th in a spot start, allowing zero runs and just 3 hits. Delle SS Mario Olivo hit his 3rd HR in the last 4 games, his 14th of the year. Final: DEL 2, RAI 0.
- Bears pitcher Alfonso Lopetokaz went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits with 9 Ks and zero walks. 2B Ralph Maxwell left with a mild back strain and will be day-to-day. Platte beat Taawa at home, 5-2.
- Kings LF Rob Webb saw the ball well, going 5-for-5 as Lia Puedris beat Redwood at Kings Stadium, 9-1.
Friday, 8/2/1935
- Plains City infielder Winston Townsend hit 2 HR, going 3-for-5 with 3 RBI, but a 4-run 10th inning gave Roland the road win, 7-3.
- Delle SS Mario Olivo stayed red hot, with a 5-for-5 day, a double, and his 4th homer in his last 5 games for 5 total RBI. The Stars edged the Rivals in Railey, 7-6.
- Spiders SS Francisco Garza went 3-for-3 with a HR and 3 total RBI in Wight’s 7-4 win over the White Sox.
- Metros LHP Morgan Burnett left today’s game after 1 inning with shoulder tendinitis. He will be day-to-day for the next week or so. Randall Schmitt came of the bench for a pinch-hit grand slam to lift Tiny Sea over Cherricaw, 5-1.
- Bears 1B Dave Phillips hit 2 solo HRs and went 3-for-5 with 4 RBI as Platte beat Taawa in 11 innings, 12-10. Platte starter Travis Voelker left early with a finger blister and will be day-to-day.
- Owls SS Fouad Lefevre went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI on a single, a double, and his UA-leading 20th HR. Redwood won at Lia Puedris, 7-2.
- The Bears sent a trio of prospects to Roland in exchange for LH RP Arturo Buyoya as they gear up for their playoff push. They also sent three prospects to Plains City for 33-year old RHP Ron Rivera.
Saturday, 8/3/1935
- Prissley has picked up veteran RHP Raul Babechi, sending young lefty Clifton Johnson to Wight in a trade. Babechi has 24 Ks in 20 appearances, with an impressive 1.88 ERA pitching in relief this season.
- Plains City starter Anton Lin left in the 4th inning with a herniated disc. He will likely miss at least 2 weeks. Reapers 3B Winston Townsend stayed hot with a double and a home run for 3 RBI. Plains City beat Roland at home, 5-3. Roland starter Salim Mujer left after 3 innings with a mild oblique strain and is questionable for his next start.
- RF Walter Abbott made a splash on his first game as a Star since being traded from Plains City this week. Abbott went deep twice for 4 RBI as Delle beat Railey on the road, 6-1.
- Wight C Ferdinand Girard hit 2 HRs, including a grand slam, and had 6 total RBI as the Spiders squeaked past the White Sox, 9-8. Wight LHP Kevin Leroux pitched in relief, but came out early again due to blister pain.
- Brothers starter Kamel Gosselin pitched very well again, allowing 1 run on just 2 hits over 8 IP, striking out 11 and walking 3. Salvation won at home over Lia Kompos, 4-2.
- Owls RH SP Will Shufflebottom pitched well in his first start since earning July’s Pitcher of the Month Award. He notched 11 Ks and allowed 2 runs on just 3 hits and 2 walks over 6 IP.
- Chargers C Juan Valenzuelaka was responsible for 7 of Taawa’s 8 runs as he launched 3 HRs in the team’s 8-2 win at Platte.

- Greys LF Holth Lass went 3-for-4 with 2 HRs and 5 RBI in Tillers’ 9-7 win at Green Rock.
- Elderwood 1B Blake Mercier was a double away from the cycle, going 4-for-4 with a triple and a HR for 2 total RBI as the Lakers beat the Captains, 6-0. RHP Connor Johnston was locked in, allowing just 1 hit over 7 scoreless innings, walking 3, and striking out 7.
Tuesday, 7/30/1935
- 3-time UA Pitcher of the Year, Ducks starter Jorge Takato pitched a 9-inning shutout with just 3 hits and 3 walks. He struck out 6. Final: GAN 5, FAR 0.
- Dragons 2B Jeffrey McGhee hit a triple and a grand slam for 5 RBI. His RBI triple walked it off for Green Rock in the bottom of the 13th for a 10-9 win over Tillers.

Thursday, 8/1/1935
- Farport hurler Jim Gilliam has pitched well, with a 2.00 ERA and 58 Ks in 54 IP, but is done for the year. He will require surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow.
- Petchon LF Allen Hendrix is the NPL’s July Batter of the Month. He had 33 hits, 13 HRs, and 30 RBI while scoring 19 runs for the first-place Carp. He leads the league in HRs (20) and RBI (50). Hendrix won BotM in June as well, and has his sights set on the NPL MVP award.
- Trimble LHP Jeffrey Irvin is July’s NPL Pitcher of the Month. He was 5-0 over the month, a 1.62 ERA and an impressive .163 BAA. He had 28 Ks and 8 walks in 39 innings.
Friday, 8/2/1935
- Green Rock LF Lorenzo Adom hit 2 HRs for 3 RBI in the Dragons’ 9-3 win at Farport.
Saturday, 8/3/1935
- Today marked the NPL’s trade deadline.
- 25-year old RHP Joseph Carr made his first start of the year since signing with the Captains earlier in the day. He was brilliant, allowing zero hits and zero walks over 8 innings, with 4 Ks. Riverside beat Gallstone, 3-0.
- The Carver Canaries added another piece in their push for a National Series appearance. They acquired veteran lefty Johnny Bellows from the Wight Spiders in exchange for two young prospects. Bellows has a 5.35 ERA with 38 Ks in 38.2 IP this season.
- The Petchon Carp sent a handful of prospects to Roland in an interleague trade, acquiring RHP Tim Mitchell. Mitchell has 41 Ks over 32 innings and a 4.22 ERA in 28 appearances.
- Veteran reliever Jeremy Greene is headed from Lia Kompos to Elderwood in an interleague trade as the Lakers gear up for a postseason push in the NPL. The Lakers currently trail the Canaries by 1 game for a National Series berth.
