July 8, 1935
After winning June’s Batter of the Month award, Owls SS Fouad Lefevre’s career season continues with his second Player of the Week award in the last three weeks. After Paul Blount’s PoTW win last week, this marks the third straight Owls player to win the award.
The 25-year old “Soupy” Lefevre hit .500 this week with 3 HR, 6 RBI, and 7 runs scored. He leads the UA with an astounding .434 average after five weeks. The Owls are the center of the baseball world, dominating the league as they eye their second division title.
No-hitter alert! 23-year old Owls starter Felipe Katakien has thrown the fifth no-hitter in Uplantic Association history. On July 6, he held the Trail Blazers scoreless with zero hits over 6.1 innings. The game was called due to rain in the 7th inning, but the 6.1-inning effort stands as an official no-hitter in the record books.
The UUBO Draft took place on July 6. The Carver Canaries took 21-year old LHP Cory Salomon from Northsouth Junior College as the first overall pick.
All-Star voting began this week for the 1935 UA All-Star Game. There is speculation that this will be the last All-Star contest held by the UA, as last year’s game was not received well by many fans. The UUBO merger has given the UA yearly realigning divisions and did away with the “East vs. West” All-Star format. The UA has traditionally announced the location of the following season’s All-Star Game the week after each All-Star break. However, the commissioner’s office has released a statement to the effect that the future of the All-Star Game will not be addressed until this offseason.

The Taawa Chargers held the UA’s top record at 17-9 as Week 5 began. They led the Plains City Reapers by 2 games in Division D, and were second in the league in runs scored (144).
The Redwood Owls were the UA’s hottest team coming into Week 5, having won 5 straight games and leading the Salvation Brothers by 1 game in Division C. The Owls led the UA in both most runs scored (156) and fewest runs allowed (91).

Monday, 7/1/1935
- White Sox RHP Juan Kwacha took his start into the 9th, allowing just 1 hit on 7 Ks and 2 walks over 8.1 innings. Deerborn beat Delle, 3-0.
- Kings LF John Bunce came off the bench in a double switch and hit 2 HR, including a grand slam for 5 total RBI, as Lia Puedris beat Platte, 10-8.
Tuesday, 7/2/1935
- Stags RHP Noa Dutertre threw 7 innings with just 1 run on 3 hits. He struck out 8 and walked 4, earning the win in Roland’s 8-2 home victory over Cherricaw.
- Spiders batter Lier Semb hit a pinch hit grand slam in the 8th inning to lift Wight over Prissley, 5-3.
- Deerborn starter Mathew Huertata struck out 12 batters, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits over 7 IP. The Stars rallied against the bullpen to take the win, however, 4-2.
- Northsouth start Ron Englert allowed 1 hit in 5 scoreless innings with 6 Ks in the Guardians’ 3-1 home win over the Rivals. Howeard Ferguson went 7 innings with 2 runs allowed on 4 hits with 9 Ks, but was saddled with the loss.
- Owls LF Steve Thomas took the lead in the UA HR race with his 13th bomb of the year as Redwood expanded their division lead to 3 games over Salvation with a 9-2 win. Owls 1B Victor Thabet left with a mild ankle sprain and will be day-to-day for at least a week. Redwood has now won 7 straight games.
Wednesday, 7/3/1935
- Owls starter Craig Ogg tossed 7 scoreless innings with 3 hits, 3 walks, and 7 Ks as Redwood won their 8th straight, beating Wight, 5-1.
- Reapers 3B Winston Townsend went 2-for-4 with a bases-clearing triple and a HR for 5 total RBI in Plans City’s 8-2 home win over the Kings.
- Rivals 23-year old CF Albert Luna went 3-for-5 with a double and a HR for 3 total RBI, but Railey lost at home to Deerborn, 9-7.
- Platte RHP Eugene Kiteoko fired a complete game shutout against the Guardians. He allowed 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Final: PLA 7, NOR 0.
- Miners RF Jorge Aguilar went 3-for-5 with 2 solo HR and 4 total RBI as Lia Kompos beat Delle, 9-2.
- Roland 2B Kevin Smith had a 3-for-3 day with 2 walks. He hit 2 HR for 4 RBI, but the Stags gave up the game after the Brothers rallied for 6 runs in the 7th inning. Final: SAL 7, ROL 6.
Thursday, 7/4/1935
- Owls SS Fouad Lefevre’s dominance at the plate continued today as he smacked 2 HR and a double for 3 RBI. Redwood won their 9th straight game, beating Wight on the road, 5-2.
- Rivals RHP Pedro Rivera allowed just 2 hits over 6 scoreless innings with 9 Ks. The Rivals shut out the White Sox, 7-0.
- Taawa RHP Leo Black left a spot start with pain that turned out to be bone spurs in his elbow. He will miss around 2 months. The Herders beat the Chargers, 4-2.
- Bears C Eloi Rousset hit 2 homers and took a bases-loaded walk for 6 total RBI, while starter Oliver Medina struck out 14 over 8.1 IP in Platte’s 6-3 win over Northsouth.
- Miners RF Ramon Zuniga hit 2 solo shots, but the Delle Stars dropped 14 runs to win at home, 14-7. Stars 40-year old 1B Pedro Bausi went 3-for-5 with a HR and 4 total RBI in the win. Delle RF Francisco Lia Taawa was hit by a pitch and left with a forearm bruise that will likely bother him for a week or so, but he is not headed to the IL.
- Stags LF Ismael Trimble hit a HR and a double for 3 RBI as Roland won at Salvation, 6-3.
Friday, 7/5/1935
- Plains City RF Walter Abbott hit a double and a HR for 4 total RBI, 1B Vance Adegoke had a 4-for-5 day and crossed the plate 4 times in the Reapers’ 10-2 win at home over Lia Puedris.
- Redwood RHP Mike Gurr went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits. The Owls beat the Spiders, 5-2. The Owls have now won 10 straight games. They lead the Brothers by 5 games in C Division.
- Stars LF Antonio hit HRs number 9 and 10 of the year for 3 RBI in Delle’s 7-3 home win over Lia Kompos.
- Northsouth 2B Ernesto Terawaa went 4-for-4 with a 2-run HR, but the Guardians lost in Platte, 8-3.
Saturday, 7/6/1935
- Reapers RF Jose Gomez went 3-for-5 with 2 bombs for 5 RBI and starting pitcher Anton Lin pitched 8 1-run innings in Plains City’s 13-1 thumping of the Guardians in Northsouth. The Reapers win ties them with Taawa for the D Division lead.
- Chargers 2B Luke Lia Puedris went 3-for-4 with a double and a solo HR, but the Brothers won in Taawa, 7-2. The loss brings Taawa into a tie with Plains City for the division lead.
- Stars RF Antonio Teakowa had a 3-for4 day with his 11th homer of the season and 4 total RBI. He was a double away from hitting for the cycle. Delle beat Cherricaw, 6-5.
- The White Sox won a wild one in the 10th inning on a walk-off wild pitch from Platte RHP Ogg Moum. The Bears (17-15) and the White Sox (16-16) have played well, but face the toughest division in the UA in D Division. Final (10): DEE 3, PLA 2.
- Owls RHP Felipe Katakien became the fifth player in UA history to pitch a no-hitter today. The result came with some controversy, since the game was called due to rain with one out in the top of the 7th while Katakien was on the mound. The 6.1 innings were enough to make the game official, and Katakien became a member of the no-hitter club. He struck out 6 batters and walked 5 in the effort. The Owls beat the Trail Blazers, 6-0. It is their 11th straight win.
Sunday, 7/7/1935
- White Sox SP Mathew Huertata struck out 7 over 6.1 1-run innings as Deerborn beat Platte, 3-1. Both teams are 2 games out of first place in D Division. Every team in the division has a winning record as the week ends.
- The Stags exploded for 14 runs against Wight for a 14-1 win. Roland LF Gurr Gurr hit a grand slam while Rafael Kastillo went 3-for-4 with a HR, a double, and 3 RBI. Stags starter Noa Dutertre pitched 8 1-run, 4-hit innings, walking one and striking out 7.
- Guardians RHP Eddie Hollingsworth entered in the 3rd inning and tossed 6 scoreless, 2-hit innings. He struck out 6 with no walks allowed. Northsouth beat Plains City, 3-2. The loss leaves the Reapers tied with the Chargers atop the D Division.
- Stars LF Antonio Teakowa hit his 4th HR in the last 3 days, a solo shot to help lift Delle over Cherricaw, 4-3. Teakowa has 12 HRs this year, 1 off the league lead. The Stars lead the Kings by 4 games in Division A.
- Owls RF Ronald Joyner went deep twice against the Trail Blazers for 5 RBI as Redwood won their 12th straight game. They own the leagues best record (23-10) and lead Division C by 5 games over Salvation as the week draws to a close.
- Miners LF Luis Pakerra had a 4-for-4 day with a walk, a double, a triple, and an RBI. The Rivals spoiled the day, however, with a 7-2 road win at Lia Kompos.
- Lefty Ben Anderson went 6 innings with 9 strikeouts, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and walking 3 as the Kings beat the Metros at home, 6-2.

Thursday, 7/4/1935
- 35-year old Carver reliever Emery Jackson will miss the rest of the year a torn elbow ligament. He had a 3.75 ERA in 16 appearances this year. With his contract expiring this season, it could be a career-ending injury for the righty who won a Windsor Cup with both the White Sox in 1929 and the Stars last season.
Saturday, 7/6/1935
- Toppers lefty Jeffrey Irvin had another great outing, pitching a complete game shutout against the Canaries. He allowed 4 hits, walked no one, and struck out 7 in Trimble’s 2-0 win.
Sunday, 7/7/1935
- Carp LF Allen Hendrix had a 3-for-5 performance with a double, a HR, and 5 total RBI. Petchon won at Farport, 6-1.
- Canaries lefty Bobby Herald pitched 8 1-run innings with 3 hits allowed, 9 Ks, and zero walks. Carver beat Trimble, 2-1.
- Ducks starter Brahim Mujer was one out away from a complete game shutout against the Ropers. He allowed zero runs on 5 hits with 5 Ks and zero walks.
