June 17, 1935

Coming off his first All-Star season in 1934, Herders RF Willie Eatmon shone this week with a .542 average, 2 HR, and 9 RBI. He leads the UA with a .492 overall average so far this season.

The Taawa Chargers jumped out to 6-1 start in Week 1, earning the UA’s best record. Their young pitching staff has allowed the fewest runs in the league through the first week. Can they continue atop the standings as we continue to Week 2?

The Prissley Trail Blazers are in first place in Division A. Blazers batters hold the top three batting averages in the league coming into Week 2: Bob Hove (.552), Ignacio Duarteka (.500), Ugo Monnier (.448).

Monday, 6/10/1935

  • Prissley LF Bob Hove smacked his 6th HR of the year as Prissley beat Lia Puedris, 5-3.
  • Rivals 3B Hichem Colle went deep twice in Railey’s 8-7 home win over Taawa. Chargers 3B George Stouffer also hit 2 HR in the game.
  • Stags SP Rich Smith allowed 4 hits over 7 IP as Roland defeated Platte, 1-0, on a HR from CF Carroll Martin in the 2nd inning.
  • Deerborn starter Esteban Muiru went the distance at Salvation, tossing a complete game shutout with just 3 hits allowed, 6 Ks, and zero walks. Final: DEE 6, SAL 0.
  • Miners starter Arnold Williams racked up 12 strikeouts in 6 IP. He gave up 4 runs in a no-decision. Lia Kompos went on to beat Cherricaw in 10 innings, 5-4, on a walk-off homer by C Jerry Christiansen.
  • Wight 2B Jeff Pekerez hit a pair of HR for 3 RBI in the Spiders’ 5-4 win at the Guardians.

Tuesday, 6/11/1935

  • Reapers infielder Walter Abbott hit 2 HR for 3 RBI, including a walk-off solo shot in the 10th to put Plains City over Redwood, 7-6.
  • Herders RH SP Vic Mitchell struck out 9 batters over 7.1 IP, giving up 1 run on 3 hits as Cherricaw beat Lia Kompos, 6-2.
  • The Spiders have lost RHP Tanner Durakotos to a torn rotator cuff. He will miss the remainder of the 1935 season. His replacement in Wight’s game against Northsouth also left with a back strain injury, and could miss around a week. The Guardians beat the Spiders, 3-2.
  • SP Juan Nguvumali pitched 7 scoreless innings with 4 hits allowed and 7 Ks in Tiny Sea’s 6-2 win over the Stars.
  • Stags veteran 1B Albert Pentana hit 2 HR, but Roland lost in Platte, 3-2.

Wednesday, 6/12/1935

  • Rivals 1B Gabriel Martinezto hit 2 homers for 5 RBI to help Railey beat Taawa, 6-1.
  • Kings 3B Jordan Linker notched 4 RBI, including a 3-run HR, as Lia Puedris blanked Prissley, 6-0.
  • Owls RF Karl Spencer went deep twice with solo homers in Redwood’s 4-2 win at Plains City.
  • Salvation LF Juan Rivera had a 3-for-4 day with a solo HR and 2 total RBI. The Brothers beat the White Sox, 8-3.
  • Bears RF Gurr Gurr went 3-for-3 with a 3-run blast in the 4th as Platte downed Roland, 4-1.

Friday, 6/14/1935

  • Cherricaw LF Mark Gill went 3-for-4 with a 2-run homer and 4 total RBI. It proved to be the difference in the Herders’ 10-6 win over the Metros.
  • Roland LH SP Greg Crepin struck out 10 batters and allowed 1 run on hits in 7 IP. The Stags beat the Reapers, 4-1.
  • Guardians starter Doug Manns pitched into the ninth, holding the Blazers scoreless on just 3 hits with 5 Ks and 1 walk. Northsouth walked off on a sac fly by Rogne Sem to bring Luis Hecini home after his 1-out triple in the bottom of the ninth. Final: NOR 1, PRI 0.
  • Delle LF Antonio Teakowa hit his 4th and 5th HRs of the season, going 3-for-5 with 4 RBI in the Stars’ 4-1 win over the Rivals. Stars RF Francisco Lia Taawa strained a his quadriceps and will be day-to-day over the next few days.
  • Brothers C Raul Bahaa went 4-for-5 with with a solo HR and a double for 2 total RBI in Salvation’s 9-7 win at Lia Kompos. Miners 1B Ed DeMent suffered an oblique strain and will likely miss around a week. Brothers closer David Mujer got the win, but felt pain during his performance. He learned he will miss the rest of the year with a torn rotator cuff.
  • Bears starter Alfonso Lopetokaz struck out 10 over 8 scoreless innings, but the Chargers overcame when C Juan Valenzulaka walked it off with a 2-run homer off of Ogg Moum to win, 2-1.
  • Owls 3B Marc Zorn went 3-for 5 with a grand slam in the 7th inning, lifting Redwood over Lia Puedris, 6-3.
  • Rivals 40-year old LF Jorge Akil learned he will be out for around two more months with his thumb fracture healing more slowly than team doctors had hoped.

Saturday, 6/15/1935

  • Herders RF Willie Eatmon had a 5-for-5 day with a HR and 2 total RBI. The game featured 11 strikeouts by each side’s pitching staff, with Cherricaw blanking the Metros, 7-0.
  • Stags starter Salim Mujer struck out 8 Reapers batters, holding them scoreless on 3 hits over 7 IP. The sole run in the game came on a fielding error by Reapers 1B Vance Adegoke. Final: ROL 1, PC 0.
  • Rivals 3B Hichem Colle had his second 2-HR day of the week, going 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. However, Stars, 2B Sami Quille brought Antonio Teakowa home with a walk-off double to win it 10 innings for Delle, 7-6.
  • Salvation C Raul Bahaa went 4-for-4 with a 2-run homer as the Brothers beat the Miners in Lia Kompos, 4-1.
  • Platte CF Myles Williams will likely miss some time with a bruised knee after being hit by a pitch against his former team. The Chargers won the game in 10 innings, 5-4, with 7.2 1-run innings from LH SP Doyle Lane.
  • Owls starter Will Shufflebottom struck out 10 Kings batters over 7 innings, but a rough first inning saw Shufflebottom throw a wild pitch to bring a run home after giving up a double to Quincy Henson open the game. The Kings held on for the 1-0 win at Redwood.
  • Deerborn RH SP Esteban Muiru threw another gem, holding the Spiders scoreless on 3 hits over 8 IP. He struck out 5 and walked zero. The White Sox beat the Spiders, 4-0.

Sunday, 6/16/1935

  • Spiders SS Francisco Garza hit 2 HR for 3 RBI in Wight’s 13-7 win at Deerborn. Wight 3B Mike Butler strained his ACL and will be out for around 5 weeks.
  • Trail Blazers 3B Ugo Monnier went 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI, scoring 3 runs. Prissley beat Northsouth on the road, 11-7. 1B Luis Rokodriguez was 2-for-4 with 4 RBI in the win.
  • Bears starter Jose Verdier gave up 1 run on 3 hits over 7 innings and struck out 8 batters with 1 walk. The Bears edged the Chargers in Taawa, 3-2.
  • Veteran Delle starter Francisco Lia Taawa set a Stars team record with 13 strikeouts over 7.2 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits as Delle beat Railey, 6-2.

  • Toppers lefty veteran George Webb allowed no runs and just 2 hits over 8 IP in Trimble’s 2-0 win at Gallstone.

Friday, 6/14/1935

  • Carp C Eddie Feeley went 2-for-3 with a grand slam and 5 total RBI. Petchon beat Gallstone, 9-2.
  • Green Rock RF Curt Lawson hit 2 solo HRs, but the Mystics beat the Dragons, 5-4.

Saturday, 6/15/1935

  • Ducks 2B Chet Rojatas hit a double and a 2-run HR with 3 total RBI in Gandolire’s 7-4 home win over the Canaries.

Sunday, 6/16/1935

  • Canaries RH SP Daniel Hockett held the Ducks scoreless over 8.2 IP, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 8 batters. Final: CAR 4, GAN 0.
  • Lakers 3B B.J. Horton had a 4-for-5 day with a double and a 3-run homer. Elderwood won in Lia Puedris, 5-3.
