The Delle Stars faced both the Railey Rivals and Deerborn White Sox this week in crucial early season games between the top teams in the UA East division.
The NPL kicked off its Regular Season this week! After this year, the top four teams in terms of cumulative record from 1930-33 will be added to the UA for the upcoming 1934 season, and the NPL will add eight new teams. Read more about the UUBO merger here.

UA News
Monday, 6/26/1933
- Lia Kompos 3B Hichem Colle went 2 for 4 with a grand slam and 5 total RBI as the Miners edged the Herders, 7-6. Herders RHP Francisco Silva left the game after bloodying the ball on a pitch with a torn fingernail. He is expected to recover in a few days.
- Owls LH SP Rodrigo Garai went 8 innings and struck out 6 as Redwood beat Deerborn, 5-3.
- Rivals 3B Fure Len hit 2 HR today against Railey. Delle LF Curt Lawson left the game as a precaution with arm soreness. He is not being put on the IL. Railey rallied against RHP Stanley Quinn in the 8th inning with 3 runs and went on to win, 6-3. The Rivals have a 1-game lead in the UA East.
- Taawa 37-year old RP Dave Guillon is out for a full calendar year after tearing a tendon in his throwing elbow. This could spell the end of Guillon’s career with his contract expiring at the end of the 1933 season. The Guardians beat the Chargers, 4-0.
Tuesday, 6/27/1933
- White Sox RF Ivan Tuwaa hit a pair of HR in Deerborn’s 6-5 win over Redwood. The Deerborn pitching staff combined for 17 K’s in the game!
- Rivals SP Manny Vazquiza went 5 scoreless innings with just 2 hits. The Railey pitching staff gave up just 4 hits total in their 6-0 win at Delle. With the win, the Rivals take the series and retain the best record in baseball.
- Stars RP Fernando Varkas left the game against the Rivals with a sore shoulder. Team doctors say he will be about about a month with severe inflammation.
Wednesday, 6/28/1933
- Platte RF Michael Moore hit 2 homers and CF Ramon Zuniga hit his league-leading 10th as the Bears downed the Stags 9-5.
- Owls 3B Carlos Alaniz hit a grand slam in Redwood’s 5-2 win over Cherricaw.
- Salvation 3B Ric Garcika hit 2 HR as the Brothers beat up on the Chargers, 12-3. Garcika scored 4 times to tie the UA record for runs.
- Deerborn 1B Bob Hove went off for 3 HR, but the Stars topped the White Sox, 6-5. Delle 3B Mario Olivo hit 2 HR in the win. Both Hove and Olivo are tied for the league lead with 10 HR.
Thursday, 6/29/1933
- Prissley put up 4 runs in the 10th inning to seal the win over arch-nemeses, the Railey Rivals. Trail Blazers LF John Bunce went yard twice for 3 RBI and scored 4 runs in the win. Railey and Prissley will play the rubber match tomorrow in Railey.
- Lia Kompos RF Ron Morley hit a grand slam as part of a 6-run 7th inning for the Miners, who would go on to beat the Guardians, 11-8.
- White Sox LF Juan Tumaini hit 2 HR today to draw even with teammate Bob Hove in the UA home run race. Tuimaini’s 2 long balls were the only runs for Deerborn, who beat Delle 2-1 in a 13-inning game. Deerborn CF Curt Sawyer struck out 5 times in the game to tie a dubious UA record.
Friday 6/30/1933
- Voting begins today for the 6th UA All-Star Game in Railey. This will be the last All-Star match-up with the current format between the East and West divisions for the foreseeable future, as the league will restructure under the UUBO merger next season.
- In the rubber match between Railey and Prissley, the Rivals tied the game with a 3-run rally in the bottom of the 9th, then won on a walk-off single from C Pedro Romanota. The Rivals have the best record in baseball.
- White Sox 1B Bob Hove took over the UA HR lead with his 11th bomb of the year. Deerborn SP Vist Sek hit Delle 1B Pedro Bausi with a pitch in the first inning of today’s game, leading to a confrontation in which Buasi ultimately threw Sek to the ground. The players were restrained and ejected from the game. Bausi was apologetic and admitted to embarrassment after the game. “Well, I definitely shouldn’t have reacted the way I did. That’s on me. I’m embarrassed, honestly.” Bausi will be suspended for 4 games and Sek will be suspended for 6.
- The Bears had their way with the Stags, winning 7-1. Platte C Eloi Roussett was ejected in the 6th inning after arguing with the home plate umpire on a called strike.
- Rookie Salvation CF Jose Rivera had a 4-for-4 day and the Brothers topped the Chargers, 8-7.
- Redwood SP Daniel Hockett struck out 8 batters in 6.1 1-run innings. The Owls beat the Herders, 6-1.
Saturday 7/1/1933
- Rivals CF Howard Tenney is crowned UA Batter of the Month for June. Tenney’s .382 AVG, 10 HR, and 32 RBIs have been an essential part of the Rivals’ success so far this season.
- Bears SP Will Shufflebottom is the UA’s Pitcher of the Month for June. In 5 starts, Shufflebottom has gone 4-0 with a 1.35 ERA and 32 Ks.
- June’s UA Rookie of the Month award goes to Prissley 2B Ismail Lefebvre. The 23-year old hit .344 with 2 triples , 6 doubles, and 3 HR in the month of June.
Sunday 7/2/1933
- 22-year old rookie Cherricaw SP Bobby Herald struck out 8 and allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 6 IP in the Herders’ 4-1 win over Delle. Delle ends the week in third place in the UA East.
- Deerborn exploded for a 16-2 trouncing of the Trail Blazers in Prissley. Bob Hove as 3 for 4 with 2 HR and 5 RBI. Hove leads the UA with 13 HR. White Sox SP Roberto Tokorres struck out 8 in 8 innings and allowed just 1 run in the win. The White Sox are 0.5 games out of first, pending the outcome of Rivals/Bears tonight.
- Miners SS Jose Meza had a 4-for-4 night with a double, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored. Lia Kompos jumped all over the lowly Chargers, 13-2.
- Red-hot Railey downed Platte, 6-0, to keep a 1-game lead in the UA East and the league’s best record. Rivals CF Howard Tenney hit his 11th HR, and 3B Fure Len went deep twice for the second time this week!
- Platte Bears SP Mark Lia Yorino left the game tonight with a herniated disc in his neck. He could miss around a week.
- The Brothers tied the game in the 9th and walked off in the 12th on an RBI double from LF Carlos Kayra. Final/12: SAL 5, ROL 4. Salvation rises to 13-13 with the win, 4 games behind the Bears in the UA West.
- The Brothers inked an extension with 32-year old CL Pat Flores. Flores will make $3.09 million per year through 1936. Flores has 4 saves and a 1.76 ERA so far this season.

- Canaries RF Bob Jones hit 2 HR on Opening Day as the Canaries pounded the Kings, 10-2.
Sunday, 7/2/1933
- Lakers SP Ed Austin struck out 8 in 7.2 innings of shutout baseball. Elderwood beat Petchon, 2-0.
