October 28, 1928
- The 1928 United Association awards have been presented. See below for a full list of this year’s best in baseball.
- Players are eligible to file for free agency today. The league may have a very different look next year, as a great many of the players who were hesitant to sign with UA teams are reportedly now in contract talks after the league’s wildly successful first year. Some big names have already joined up with UA teams in the first day of free agency.
- Free agent 3B Jesus Terawaa signs with Prissley Trail Blazers. Terawaa was one of the most famous power hitters in touring baseball with the South Carrol Coyotes.
- SP Jeff Walker signs with the Salvation Brothers. Walker spent the last several years teaching and coaching with the Thundaru Juniors. He was offered a contract with the Herders for the 1928 season, but declined. Some of his hometown acquaintances in Cherricaw are reportedly miffed that he’s taking his talents to Tiny Sea.
- SP Roberto Tokorres signs with the White Sox. Tokorres toured with Bert Milner’s Baseball Kings prior to this signing.
- SP Gurr Gurr sign with the Delle Stars. According to sources, his wife forbid him from signing a pro baseball contract. They were divorced in September, and Gurr has joined the UA.
- CF Stan Davis signs with the Platte Bears. Davis is considered by some to be the best player in the history of the game. We’ll see if his talents translate to organized pro ball.
- SP Jacob Hudson joins Milner’s Kings teammate Tokorres on the Deerborn White Sox.
- SP Edward Mercier signs with the Roland Stags. Another touring ball defector, Mercier is a ruthless and highly intelligent strikeout artist. He joins an already stellar rotation in Roland.
