The Uplantic Professional Football Federation began play in 1932, after founders Catherine Pennington and Giles Lydon saw the success of Uplantica’s professional baseball leagues and believed that football could be just as fruitful. After the revelation of a cheating scandal perpetrated by Giles Lydon and the Northsouth Athletics during the inaugural season, the UPFF folded and Uplantic Premier Football (UPF) was formed with the remaining nine teams and seven new teams.

The Northsouth Athletics were revealed to have perpetrated a cheating scheme throughout the first and only UPFF season. The UPFF folded due to the scandal and was replaced by the UPF. Every member of the Northsouth Athletics office and coaching staff was banned for life from the UPF. The Athletics players were allowed to enter the new league as free agents, as no link was found between the team’s cheating staff and individual players.

Uplantic Bowl II was the first championship game for the UPF. With the blessing of UPFF founder Catherine Pennington, the UPF retained the “Uplantic Bowl” moniker and continued to use the Pennington Cup as its championship trophy.
