As we entered Week 5 of Uplantic Majors Basketball’s inaugural season, the Prissley Riverwolves were still the league’s top team with just one loss on their record. They led the Wight Spirits by 3 games in the Eastern Division.

The Riverside Ramblers led the Western Division with a record of 9-3, 3 games in front of the Plains City Scouts, Gandolire Jewels, and Salvation Brothers, all tied for second place as Week 5 games began.

Both division leaders came into week 5 riding win streaks. The Riverwolves had won 3 straight since suffering their first loss of the season, while the Ramblers were the hottest team in basketball, having won 4 straight entering Week 5.

UMB News

  • Ramblers GF Luther James exploded against the Brothers in Tiny Sea, setting the UMB record with 32 points. He also set the league record with 8 3pts in the game, along with 5 rebounds. The Ramblers pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Salvation, 50-40. Riverside remains the top team in the Western Division at 10-3.
  • The Scouts and the Jewels met in Gandolire, with both teams part of a three-way tie behind the first place Ramblers in the Western Division. Scouts GF Ted Spencer dropped a career-high 16 points, along with a career-high 4 rebounds and a blocked shot. The Scouts won, 50-34.
  • Aces G Jeffery Carey put up a career-best 16 points as Roland cruised to a 50-37 win over the Tippers in Tiny Sea. Roland is 8-5 and have won 3 straight games.
  • The Thundaru Lightning got back in the win column after losing 2 straight, stomping the Colts at home with a 56-38 win. UMB’s top scorer, Lightning G Theodore Duncan, scored 15 points in the win. The Lightning are tied for third place in the East with the Aces.
  • Crawsburgh Comets FC Albert Mack returned to action after missing time with a shoulder strain. The Comets, who once again upset the first-place Prissley Riverwolves, 55-53. The Comets are the only team to have beaten the Wolves. They’ve now done it twice. Mack had 12 points along with career highs in rebounds (6) and steals (2). The Riverwolves remain in first place at 11-2.
  • The Jewels beat the Spirits in a thriller in Wight, 52-51. Gandolire GF Scott Goodman led the way with 24 points with 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.
  • The Roland Aces beat the Thundaru Lightning with a big team effort, 46-28. The Aces win streak is up to 4 games. Aces FC Randy Long scored a career-high 8 points and had a career-high 3 blocked shots, along with 3 rebounds. The Aces are now tied for second in the East with the Wight Spirits, with both teams at 9-5.
  • The Plains City Scouts allowed only 14 points in the second half, coming from behind to beat the Railey Colonels in Plains City, 45-43. Scouts FC Shaun Burgess scored a career-high with 12 points, along with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks. Scouts G Bryan Peterson returned from a concussion to come off the bench for 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists.
  • The Tiny Sea Tippers shocked the Riverwolves with a 41-32 win in Prissley. The Wolves have now lost 2 straight games. Of their 3 losses this season, all 3 have come at the hands of sub-.500 teams. GF Justin Bowman had a career-high with 12 points in the win for the Tippers. Prissley retains a 2-game lead in the UMB East.
  • Brothers SG Kirk Barnes scored 17 and had 2 steals to help the Brothers overcome an 18-point performance by Crawsburgh GF Douglas Salzaka. Final: SAL 63, CRW 50. The Brothers are tied with Jewels for third place.
  • Luther James had another big game, scoring 18 points, pulling down 5 rebounds, with 2 assists, and a steal as the Ramblers topped the Giants in Deerborn, 52-48.
  • Salvation beat Thundaru in Tiny Sea, 55-42. Both teams are now 8-7. Brothers GF Isaac Hart scored 13 points, with 5 rebounds, an assist, and a block in the win. Lightning G Theodore Duncan scored 18 points and had 7 assists, but it wasn’t enough to beat Hart and the Brothers. The Lightning have lost 4 of their last 5 after a strong start to the season. They are currently in fourth place, 4 games behind the Riverwolves in the East.
  • The Tiny Sea Tippers won their second straight game against a winning team, beating the Spirits in Wight, 59-57 in OT. Tiny Sea FC Lani’a Nalatu’u scored 18 points, his career best. He also had 4 rebounds and a block in the win. Arnold Hall was great for Wight in the loss, with 24 points (career-high), 4 rebounds, an assist, and a steal. The Toppers are 4 games back in the West, while the Spirits are 3 games back in the East.
  • The Jewels upset the first-place Ramblers at home in Gandolire, snapping a 6-game win streak for Riverside. Gandolire PG Johnny Sherman notched a career-high 8 assists and a steal, along with 6 points and 4 rebounds in the win. The day was bittersweet for the Jewels, who lost star GF Scott Goodman to a back injury. Doctors report that injury is painful, but not too serious as back injuries go, and that Goodman will likely be back in action in about 10 days. Gandolire is tied for second in the West, 3 games behind the Ramblers.
  • Prissley SG Jesse Mills reclaimed the UMB league scoring lead with 17 points, a rebound, 2 assists, and a steal as the Riverwolves bounced back from their 2-game skid to beat the Deerborn Giants, 41-33. Prissley once again own the league’s best record at 12-3, with a 3-game lead in the UMB East.
  • The last-place Railey Colonels rode a strong fourth quarter to upset the Plains City Scouts in Railey, 39-28. The loss puts the Scouts at 8-7, 3 games behind the Ramblers in the Western Division.
