Uplantic Majors Basketball’s inaugural season is underway!

Following the nationwide success of UUBO baseball and UPF football, former Brothers baseball team owner George Hader put together a pro basketball league in Uplantica. Most teams are located along the Continental River, where the sport of basketball originated (although the details of the sport’s origin story are disputed). Hader’s influence helped to bring two teams to Tiny Sea City, Uplantica’s largest market. A presence in Tiny Sea lends a legitimacy to the new league, putting new eyes on the sport. Hader hopes the league will expand throughout the nation in the next decade.

The Plains City Scouts, formerly known as the Hewitt Scouts touring team, hosted the Carver Bannarets at the Huggins Fieldhouse in Plains City in the inaugural Regular Season UMB game. The arena was sold out and Crystalline Casting viewership was nearly double what league officials predicted for the game, with viewership outside the direct team markets showing particular promise.

After the first week of play, the Gandolire Jewels lead the UMB West and the Prissley Riverwolves lead the UMB East. Both teams are currently 3-0. The Riverwolves and Jewels will meet in Gandolire next week.

UMB News

  • The Deerborn Giants have signed PG Richard Mann to a 4-year, $6 million contract. The 20-year old was one of the most sought-after young prospects leading up the start of the season. He held out until just before the start of the season and got a substantial payday. Many are criticizing the decision to hold out on signing with a team as a selfish move when top players should be doing what they can to support the new league in its infancy. Others note that the holdout has generated substantial press for the UMB league.
  • 20-year old, 7-foot C Carlos Long has signed with the Cherricaw Colts for 4 years/$5 million.
  • In the first game in UMB history, the Plains City Scouts came from behind at home with a 20-11 fourth quarter to beat the Carver Bannarets, 56-54. Scouts GF Freddie Schroeder scored 18 points in the game. PF Leonard Morgan scored 10 points with 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocked shots for Carver.
  • Prissley Riverwolves SG Jesse Mills scored 19 points with 2 steals and 2 blocks as the Riverwolves stomped the Brothers in Prissley, 52-35.
  • Gandolire Jewels GF SCott Goodman dropped 22 points and pulled down 7 rebounds in Gandolire’s debut against the Aces in Roland. The Jewels beat the Aces in OT, 59-58.
  • The Carver Bannarets have agreed to a deal with 20-year old free agent David Freeman. Local press in Carver is unanimously unenthusiastic about the $6 million price tag over 4 years.
  • 7’3″ C Anthony Hood, formerly a performer with the Hewitt Scouts, will join the Wight Spirits on a 4-years/$5 million contract.
  • PF Ian Lambert has signed with the Railey Colonels for 4 years/$5 million.
  • Ramblers GF Luther James set the UMB record with a 25-point performance. He also set the UMB record for 3PT in a game with 7. He had 3 rebounds and a blocked shot as well. Riverside beat Deerborn, 62-50.
  • Carver GF Ivan Kordero put up 23 points with 2 rebounds and a steal, but the Bannarets lost to the Prissley Riverwolves, 63-56. Riverwolves SG Jesse Mills scored 19 points with 2 rebounds and a steal in the road win.
  • 7’1″ C Terrance Bradford has signed with the Gandolire Jewels. Bradford was dominant in his college years at Nakai University, but has not played at a competitive level in over a year.
  • Legendary big man Tony Boyer will make his UMB debut with the Riverside Ramblers. He signed a 3-year, $6 million with the team. Boyer won college player of the year twice in his stint at Carrol A&M, but some fans are concerned about his physical conditioning after being out of basketball for five years.
  • F Timoteo Gilbuena exploded for 22 points with 2 rebounds and an assist as the Thundaru Lightning beat the Tiny Sea Tippers, 49-46.
  • 25-year old C Melvin Cox will make his pro debut with the Deerborn Giants. He signed a contract with the team for 4 years/$5 million. The signing has received mixed reactions in Deerborn.
  • The Tiny Sea Tippers have signed former Hewitt Scouts star GF Kenneth Durankotos to a 3-year/$5 million deal. Durankotos was known for his sparkling personality and natural athletic ability with the Scouts. Most Tippers fans seem to be excited about the star joining the team, but it remains to be seen how he performs in a competitive setting after years of touring with the Scouts as an athletic entertainer.
