The Playoffs are upon us! Six teams remained this week in the quest for the Pennington Cup, the ultimate prize awarded to the winner of the Uplantic Bowl.

The NC West Champion Tiny Sea Titans hosted the Elderwood Archers in the NC Wild Card Game. Last season’s NC champs, the Archers broke a 4-game losing streak, beating the Brothers in Week 14 to squeak into the playoffs. Elderwood would have to endure without starting QB Hugh Ricketts and WR Joel Landon, both of whom will not be back until next year. The Titans would be without DL Daniel Burgos and CB Roy Gilles on the defensive side of the ball, as both players are out for the remainder of the playoffs. The Titans had a great Regular Season, winning their last four games and going 8-1 after a rough 2-3 start to the year. The Archers and Titans split their Regular Season series.

The Delle Chaparrals are once again SC East champs and they hosted the Lia Kompos Pumas in the SC Wild Card Game. The Pumas struggled down the stretch, but dominated Amblint in Week 14 to secure the SC Wild Card spot. The Pumas are without HB David Juarez for the rest of the year, but RBs Roy Prieto and Leonard Bryant filled in well in Lia Kompos’ Week 14 win. The Chaparrals had a great year and were the first team to clinch a division title, but they lost a thriller to the Cragsmen in Week 14. Delle lost DB Thomas Anguano for the playoffs during that game.

ELD (8-6) @ TS (10-4): The Tiny Sea Titans came out swinging against the Elderwood Archers in the NC Wild Card Game. Despite two first quarter turnovers, the Titans jumped out to a big 21-3 lead early in the second with 3 TD passes from QB Leland James. Archers QB Jeremy Perer struggled early but stuck with it and helped get Elderwood back into the game, throwing for 264 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT. The Archers eventually tied the game at 36 with 2:23 remaining on a short HB pass from Mark Muinos to WR Glen Lloyd. Muinos also rushed for 81 yards and a TD in the game. The Titans drove quickly and regained the lead on a 40-yard FG by K Terry Turpin. The Archers got the ball back with 1:21 to go. Perer completed two passes to get the team in position for a FG attempt to tie the game, but K Stokk Parker’s kick went wide to the right as time expired and the Archers’ comeback came up short. Archers SS Pham Sims intercepted 2 passes in the team’s loss. The Titans will face the Travelers in Plains City next week for the NC Championship. Final: TS 39, ELD 36.

LK (8-6) @ DEL (10-4): In the NC Wild Card Game, the Pumas took a 7-3 lead early on a 60-yard run by QB Gerald Painter. Painter ended the game with 104 rushing yards. A back-and-forth first half bent in the Titans favor after Delle DB John Barnhill stepped in front of a Painter pass and the Chaps turned it into a TD on a run by HB Anthony Gasporra to end the half with a 17-7 lead. The Chaparrals top-rated defense clamped down on Painter and the Pumas in the second half and went on to a big home win. DL Douglas Taine’e was big for Delle with 2 sacks in 4 tackles for a loss on 6 total tackles. Chaps HB Robert Lavender broke off 106 yards on 22 carries in the win. QB Hubert Aguirre passed for 271 yards and a TD with zero INTs. The Chaparrals will move on to the SC Conference Championship next week in Taawa. Final: DEL 33, LK 13.
