In what was billed as the “Game of the Year,” the Delle Chaparrals met the Taawa Jackals in a rematch from last season’s Southern Conference Wild Card Game. The Northern Conference continues to be close, with seven of eight teams within reach of a playoff spot.
Week 10 Scoreboard:

WIG (4-5) @ AMB (4-5): The Amblint Poets hosted the Wight Ravens, with both teams trying to keep their playoff hopes alive. Ravens HB Garry Young ran for 97 yards and a TD on 21 carries, and caught 6 passes for 77 yards. Ravens QB Alphonso Esparkia had a very rough day, throwing 3 INTs, but the Ravens were able to take advantage of 2 lost fumbles by Poets rookie HB Austin Faulkner to come away with the win in a close game. The Ravens remain 2 games behind in the NC East after the win. They are 1 game behind in the NC Wild Card race. The Poets are 2 games behind in the SC Wild Card Race. Final: WIG 19, AMB 16.

TS (6-3) @ CAR (3-6): The Carver Bulldogs hosted the Tiny Sea Titans. The Titans hoped for a share of first place in the NC West with a win, while the Bulldogs hoped to spark a turnaround to their disappointing season. Bulldogs QB Oscar Ivey threw 3 INTs in the first half, but Carver stormed back to take a 26-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. Carver held off Tiny Sea for a much-needed win. Carver safety Joel Heaton returned an INT 36 yards for a pick-six to start the second half. The Bulldogs are 2 games behind for the Wild Card, while the Titans remain a game behind in the NC West. Final: CAR 26, TS 21.

PC (6-3) @ DEE (5-4): The Plains City Travelers visited the Deerborn Gryphons in a match-up between the top two teams in the NC East. The Travelers started the season slow but have been in top gear the last few weeks. The Gryphons have been in more close games than any other team this season and today was no exception. The Travelers dominated early, leading 24-3 early in the third quarter. The Gryphons had an incredible fourth quarter, taking the lead, 25-24, on a 13-yard pass from QB Branden Warren to WR Dewitt Kessler with 2:26 to go. Travelers K Donnie Scanlon nailed a 39-yard FG as time expired to give Plains City the win in a thriller. Plains City now leads Deerborn and Wight by 2 games in the NC East. Final: PC 27, DEE 25.

TAA (8-1) @ DEL (7-2): In the so-called “Game of the Year,” the Taawa Jackals visited the Delle Chaparrals in a clash between the league’s top two teams. The Chaps started 7-0 but had lost their last 2 games coming into this match-up, while the Jackals were without MVP-candidate QB James De La Cruz (ankle sprain). The Jackals dominated, leading 31-6 with 8:04 to go in the game. The Chaps led an incredible late comeback, scoring 22 unanswered points in a 6-minute span. The run included an onside kickoff recovery, 2 TD passes from Hubert Aguirre to Pablo Didier, and a trick play TD pass by HB Robert Lavender. The Chaparrals magical run ended when they couldn’t recover an onside kick with 2 minutes left and Taawa held on for their 9th win of the year. The Jackals have a 3-game lead in the SC West. The Chaparrals have lost 3 straight, but still lead by 2 games in the SC East. Final: TAA 34, DEL 28.

ELD (7-2) @ GR (2-7): The Green Rock Warriors hosted the top NC West team, the Elderwood Archers. Green Rock jumped out to an early 10-0 lead thanks to an INT thrown by Archers QB Hugh Ricketts to LB Howard Slack. The Archers managed a fourth quarter comeback to take a 24-23 lead. The Archers missed a FG with 1:54 to go, and the Warriors were able to set up a 47-yard game winner by K Wassim Batiste as time expired. Warriors QB William Kastaneda threw 2 TDs and no INTs on 276 yards in the upset win. The Archers still lead by 1 game in the NC West. The Warriors are in last place in the SC West, unlikely to make the playoffs. Final: GR 26, ELD 24.

RW (2-7) @ NOR (1-8): The Redwood Flyers visited the Northsouth Generals in a battle of last-place teams. The Generals intercepted Redwood QB Lemanea’a Gacharna twice and recovered a fumble by Redwood HB Mililani’i Sapp, but fell short as the Flyers held on to win the game. Flyers DL David Valcarcel had 8 tackles, recovered a fumble, and sacked QB Quincy Medina for a safety in the game’s final minute. Final: RW 15, NOR 12.

PLA (5-4) @ PET (1-8): The Platte Cragsmen visited the Petchon Predators. Platte’s playoff hopes took a hard hit as the Predators delivered a surprise whooping to the Cragsmen in a blowout victory. Predators HB Vernon Landon was the deciding factor in the game. He went off for 210 yards on 15 rushes, scoring 2 TDs. The Petchon defense kept the Cragsmen out of the endzone. The loss leaves the Cragsmen 2 games behind the Chaparrals in the SC East. Final: PET 41, PLA 9.

LK (6-3) @ SAL (5-4): The Salvation Brothers hosted the Lia Kompos Pumas. The Pumas kept pace with the Brothers all game long, but a late defensive stand held the Pumas to a 29-yard Hicham Gauna FG. The Salvation defense then forced a turnover-on-downs on LIia Kompos’ next possession and held on for the win. Brothers QB William Maya was exceptional, going 21 for 25 with 234 yards and 2 TDs. The Brothers are tied with Tiny Sea for second place, 1 game behind the Archers in the NC west. The Pumas are now 3 games behind the Jackals in the SC West, but currently hold a 1-game lead over Platte for the Wild Card. Final: SAL 28, LK 24.
