Week 6 gave us some thrilling, close games (and some blowouts) as we near the halfway mark of the Regular Season.

Week 6 Scoreboard:

PLA (3-2) @ AMB (1-4): The Platte Cragsmen visited the Amblint Poets. The Poets had a 10-point lead at halftime and managed to hold off the Cragsmen for a narrow win at home. Platte backup QB is still starting for injured starter Alvin Crane. He had a tough day, going 16 for 37 with a TD and an INT. Amblint rookie HB Austin Faulkner was tremendous, picking up 137 rushing yards on 19 touches. Poets LB Charles Kalves had a sack and an INT in the win. Final: AMB 30, PLA 27.

CAR (1-4) @ DEE (4-1): The first-place Deerborn Gryphons hosted the last-place Carver Bulldogs. Carver jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter and held off the Gryphons for a tough upset win as Deerborn failed a 2-point conversion with 52 seconds to go. Some experts are saying the Bulldogs are poised to make a second-half push for the playoffs this season. Bulldogs DL Curtis Olsen had 6 tackles, 3 for a loss, 2 of which were sacks. Carver CB John Artola intercepted a pass to bring his league-leading season total to 4 INTs. Final: CAR 17, DEE 15.

GR (1-4) @ DEL (5-0): The unbeaten Delle Chaparrals stomped the last-place Green Rock Warriors at Darling Stadium in Delle. Chaps QB Hubert Aguirre was on fire, throwing for 306 yards and 4 TDs in the blowout. HB Robert Lavender had a great game as well, with 121 rushing yards on 20 carries and a TD, while WR Amarina’a Martin caught 8 passes for 109 yards and a TD. Final: DEL 35, GR 3.

PC (3-2) @ ELD (4-1): The Elderwood Archers hosted the Plains City Travelers in an instant classic. On a wet day in Elderwood, the first-place Archers jumped all over the Travelers early to lead 20-6 at halftime. Plains City QB Phillip Marinna’a led an incredible comeback with an 18-point fourth quarter to take the win on a last second FG by K Donnie Scanlon. Scanlon kicked 5 FGs in the game while HB David Samaniega rushed for 84 yards and a TD. The upset win puts the Travelers in a tie for first in the NC East, while the loss puts the Archers in a tie for first in the NC West. Final: PC 30, ELD 27.

LK (3-2) @ PET (1-4): The Lia Kompos Pumas visited the Petchon Predators. The Pumas were firing on all cylinders as QB Gerald Painter went off for 310 yards and 3 TDs. The Lia Kompos defense held the Predators to 253 total yards and just 40 rushing yards, keeping them out of the endzone until late in the fourth quarter. Pumas DL Kylian Kosaro sacked Predators QB Leslie Rambuka’a twice. The big road win keeps the top of the division in sight for the Pumas. Final: LK 30, PET 16.

RW (1-4) @ TAA (5-0): The Taawa Jackals stayed unbeaten with a rout of the Redwood Flyers at Sapfoot Stadium West in Taawa. Taawa’s defense kept the Flyers from scoring a touchdown in the game with just 200 yard of total offense allowed. Jackals QB James De La Cruz was in top form again this week, with 343 yards passing and 4 TDs as he continues his campaign for league MVP. Tabua’a Sinclair and David Lokelani’i each had a pair of sacks for the Jackals, who sacked Flyers QB Lemanea’a Gacharna 7 times in total. Taawa remains 2 games in front of the Pumas in the SC West. Some bad news for the soaring Jackals: HB Rickie Bates is expected to miss two weeks with an injury. Final: TAA 34, RW 6.

NOR (1-4) @ TS (2-3): The Tiny Sea Titans played host to the Northsouth Generals as the Titans looked to bounce back from last week’s heartbreaking loss at Elderwood. Tiny Sea QB Leland James threw for 246 yards and a TD and ran for 66 more with 2 rushing TDs. The Titans led big early, but a Generals comeback nearly led to an upset. Northsouth QB Quincy Medina fought hard in the second half, but ultimately the Generals were unable to overcome his 2 INTs and 1 lost fumble as Tiny Sea held on for the win. The Titans are a game out of first place in the NC West. Titans star HB Anthony Kamzee could miss two weeks with a hamstring injury. Final: TS 30, NOR 27.

SAL (3-2) @ WIG (2-3): The Wight Ravens looked to overcome a 2-game skid as they hosted the Salvation Brothers. The game was an exciting back-and-forth affair. The Salvation defense stymied Wight QB Alfonso Esparkia who was held to 170 passing yards, zero TDs, and an INT. Brothers LB Kiele’e Monaco recorded a sack and an INT as the Brothers took the lead, 20-16, with 9:02 to go. Salvation held on to squeak out a 1-point win in the rain and moved into a first-place tie with the Archers in the NC West. The Ravens have now lost 3 straight and trail by 2 games in the NC East. Final: SAL 20, WIG 19.
