After a wildly successful inaugural season, the UPF returns! The Taawa Jackals began their campaign to repeat as Uplantic Bowl champions this week, with fifteen other teams vying to stop them and claim the Pennington Cup for themselves.
Week 1 Scoreboard:




CAR (0-0) @ ELD (0-0): The Elderwood Archers opened with a convincing win against fellow 1933 division champs, the Carver Bulldogs. Archers HB Mark Muinos rushed for 105 yards and a TD on 20 carries and QB Hugh Ricketts threw for 338 yards and a TD in the win. Final: ELD 29, CAR 13.


RW (0-0) @ LK (0-0): The Lia Kompos Pumas and the Redwood Flyers opened the season at Katakien Stadium. The game turned out to be an unexpected defensive contest, with the Flyers keeping the Pumas out of the endzone as the two teams traded field goals. DE Julio Eskobeda racked up 3 sacks on 5 total tackles in the win. Final: LK 12, RW 3.


SAL (0-0) @ NOR (0-0): Still looking for their first franchise win, the Northsouth Generals hosted the Salvation Brothers to open the season. The game came down to a 2-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter, when rookie Northsouth QB Quincy Medina’s pass to Jacob Presa fell incomplete. Salvation HB Milo Whaley had 78 yards and a TD on the ground along with 4 catches for 34 yards in the win. Final: SAL 14, NOR 12.


DEL (0-0) @ PET (0-0): The Delle Chaparrals visited the Petchon Predators in a battle of cross-state Medland rivals. Delle QB Hubert Aguirre threw for 220 yards and a TD, while DL Douglas Taine’e amassed 10 tackles (4 for loss), including a sack. Final: DEL 17, PET 6.


AMB (0-0) @ PC (0-0): The Plains City Travelers opened at home against the Amblint Poets. Travelers QB Phillip Marinna’a passed for 208 yards and 2 TDs, and rookie DL Mervin Wright picked up 3 sacks. LB Johnny Kaldron made an incredible 13 tackles in the game, including 2 QB sacks. The Poets came within a point of the Travelers in the 4th quarter, but Plains City held on for the win. Final: PC 24, AMB 16.


GR (0-0) @ TAA (0-0): The Taawa Jackals opened up their championship defense campaign with a trouncing of the Green Rock Warriors at Sapfoot Stadium West. Taawa QB James De La Cruz went off for 333 yards and 4 TDs with 2 INTs in the big win. HB Rickie Bates picked up 84 rushing yards along with 45 in the air. Final: TAA 37, GR 14.


DEE (0-0) @ TS (0-0): The Deerborn Gryphons visited the Tiny Sea Titans in a tight game to start the season. Deerborn QB Branden Warren threw a TD pass to Heriberto Lawson with 18 seconds left on the clock to give the Gryphons the win on the road. Warren threw 3 TD passes and picked up 273 passing yards in the win. QB Leland James was very good for Tiny Sea after winning the starting job in the preseason, but the Titans came up short in the back-and-forth contest. Final: DEE 32, TS 28.


PLA (0-0) @ WIG (0-0): The Wight Ravens hosted the Platte Cragsmen in Week 1. Wight QB Alphonso Esparkia threw for 245 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT. The Ravens took the lead in the fourth quarter of a close game on a 1-yard TD run by Mario Gayoso, then the Wight defense then held the Cragsmen on their final possession to take a narrow win to start the season Final: WIG 24, PLA 23.
