Uplantic Bowl II
Elderwood Archers vs Taawa Jackals
Tiny Sea Coliseum, Tiny Sea, Harmony
January 7, 1934

ELD (10-4-1) vs TAA (13-3):
The final day of the season has arrived: Uplantic Bowl II between the Elderwood Archers and the Taawa Jackals. The game was once again held in the Tiny Sea Coliseum, where the now-disgraced Northsouth Athletics won the inaugural Uplantic Bowl over the Delle Chaparrals. After a cheating scandal resulted in the implosion of the Uplantic Professional Football Federation, the Athletics team folded and their coaches and executives were banned from competition in the new league, dubbed Uplantic Premier Football. The new league was allowed to keep the Uplantic Bowl moniker, as well as the Pennington Cup championship trophy, named after UPFF founder Catherine Pennington.
The Archers won the NC West and narrowly earned the bye to the Conference Championship, where they held off the Carver Bulldogs to advance to their first Uplantic Bowl.
The Jackals are the Wild Card team in the Southern Conference. They are fresh off of beating the Delle Chaparrals and the Lia Kompos Pumas on the road, both of whom had been undefeated at their home fields during the Regular Season. Taawa handled the Pumas in the SC Championship with surprising ease, considering that the Pumas were an Uplantic Bowl front-runner for most of the year.
The Jackals rode their momentum into the big game. They struck first with a field goal, then scored the game’s first touchdown after Elderwood QB Hugh Ricketts had a pass intercepted by Taawa CB David Woodbury. The TD pass from Jackals QB James De La Cruz was his first of three on the day.
Taawa led 13-3 at the end of the first quarter, and they never looked back. They rode a 19-0 second quarter to a 32-3 halftime lead, and the punishment continued in the second half as the Jackals cruised to a stunning blowout victory.
The Taawa Jackals fired on all cylinders in Uplantic Bowl II.
The Taawa defense registered an incredible 11 sacks in the game. DE Tabua’a Sinclair had 4 of his own, while LB Dean Navarro and DT Sherman Pratt each had 3. LB Shawn Huerta had 1.
Taawa K Kermit Butler was 7 of 8 on FGs; his longest was 56 yards.
Jackals HB Rickie Bates ran for 120 yards on 25 carries and a 2 TDs, while FB Joseph Buckley, HB Dale Moulin, and QB James De La Cruz combined for another 109 yards on the ground.
De La Cruz threw 3 TDs on 358 yards, and ran for 47 yards on 5 carries and 4 first downs. The effort earned him Uplantic Bowl II MVP honors.
Congrats to the Taawa Jackals for a great season and an incredible, dominant playoff run!
Final: TAA 57, ELD 11.
