Week 5 gave us some of the most exciting UPF games yet, with 7 of the 8 games being decided by just one score. The Lia Kompos Pumas looked to remain the only unbeaten team against the Tiny Sea Titans, while races in every division came more into focus.
Week 5 Scoreboard:

AMB (1-3) @ DEL (2-2): The Delle Chaparrals hosted the Amblint Poets, with Delle hoping to continue their momentum after a come-from-behind win last week against Wight. The Poets had a great day on the ground, with HBs Thomas Moore and Jermaine Komulada combining for 130 yards rushing. Poets QB Sean Trask’s 3 INTs would be their undoing, however. Delle safety Jack Serrano’s interception set up the winning field goal with 3:21 remaining, and another interception by safety Bruce Ortega in the final minute sealed the win for the Chaps. Delle WR Amarina’a Martin was injured in the game, and will likely be out for about three weeks. Final: DEL 16, AMB 13.

DEE (3-1) @ ELD (3-1): The Deerborn Gryphons traveled to Elderwood to take on the Archers, with both teams looking for a win to separate them from the pack in their respective divisions. The game was close until the fourth quarter, when the Gryphons scored twice in the first five minutes to open up a 26-7 lead. However, the Archers took advantage of a fumble on a kickoff return and an interception on a halfback pass by Deerborn HB Lindsey Serna to Elderwood DB Pham Sims to mount a late comeback. Archers WR Glen Lloyd caught a 27-yard pass from QB Hugh Ricketts with 59 seconds to go, giving Elderwood a 27-26 lead and finishing an instant classic. Final: ELD 27, DEE 26.

PET (1-3) @ NOR (0-4): Petchon Predators DE Chris Aquino sacked QB Corey Spain 4 times and recovered a fumble as Petchon handed the Northsouth Generals their fifth straight loss. Predators QB Jason Manalani’i scrambled for the game’s only touchdown to give the Petchon the lead with 3:07 to go. Final: PET 16, NOR 12.

PC (3-1) @ PLA (3-1): The Plains City Travelers took over first place in the NC East with a last-minute win on a back-and-forth game with the Platte Cragsmen at the Simmons Bowl. Plains City QB Phillip Marinna’a threw a TD pass to WR Virgilio Laskano with 24 seconds left to take the win. Marinna’a threw 3 TDs and 365 yards with zero INTs in the game. Final: PC 34, PLA 31.

GR (0-4) @ SAL (2-2): The Green Rock Warriors traveled to Tiny Sea to play the Salvation Brothers. The Warriors were looking for their first win of the year, while Salvation hoped for a confidence builder after a 2-game slide. In a tight match-up, Green Rock came out on top when K Wassim Batiste’s fourth FG of the game gave them the lead with 9 seconds left. The loss is the Brothers’ third straight, and led to a chorus of boos from the hometown crowd as the team left the field. Final: GR 19, SAL 17.

RW (0-4) @ TAA (3-1): The Redwood Flyers and Taawa Jackals met at Sapfoot Stadium West. The Flyers have been the worst team in football so far, and that trend held up on Sunday. Jackals HB Rickie Bates ran for 126 yards on 12 carries and a TD, while Jackals LB Dean Navarro had 2 sacks and a fumble recovery in the rout. The Flyers are winless and haven’t scored a touch down since Week 1, While the Jackals are keeping pace with the Pumas in the SC West. Final: TAA 31, RW 3.

LK (4-0) @ TS (3-1): The Lia Kompos Pumas looked to stay undefeated in Tiny Sea against the Titans, who looked for a character-defining big win. The game was close, but a fumble by Titans QB Leland James was recovered by DE Terrence Lugo with 3:10 to go, ending Tiny Sea’s hopes. Pumas QB Gerald Painter continued a phenomenal season with 263 yards passing, 2 TDs and zero INTs. The Pumas remain the only unbeaten team in the UPF, while the Titans trail the Archers by 1 game in the NC West. Final: LK 20, TS 12.

CAR (2-2) @ WIG (2-2): One of Uplantica’s fiercest historic rivalries made its way to the football field as the Carver Bulldogs visited the Wight Ravens on Monday night. The Ravens took the lead late in the third quarter on K Dalton Kandoro’s FG after an interception by Wight DB Francis Sheldon. Ravens QB Alphonso Esparkia led another scoring drive to open the fourth quarter, and the Ravens defense held on to the lead thanks to another INT by DE Eric Boatright. DL James Hill had 3 sacks for Wight in the win. Final: WIG 26, CAR 21.
