The Deerborn Gryphons and Lia Kompos Pumas entered Week 4 as the league’s only two unbeaten teams, but both had teams hot on their trails. Through the first month of the season, UPF officials are thrilled at fan turnout and Crystalline Casting ratings so far.

Week 4 Scoreboard:

TAA (2-1) @ AMB (1-2): The Taawa Jackals turned in a solid effort against the Poets in Amblint. Taawa HB Rickie Bates ran for 115 yards on 24 carries; QB James De La Cruz passed for 257 yards and a touchdown. K Kermit Butler was 4 for 4 on FGs in the win. Final: TAA 19, AMB 3.

DEE (3-0) @ CAR (2-1): The Carver Bulldogs had another strong showing at home to hand the Deerborn Gryphons their first loss. Carver QB Oscar Ivey threw for 267 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Ivey hooked up with WR Paul Peterman for 8 receptions and 137 yards. The win brings the Bulldogs within a game of the Gryphons in the NC East division. Final: CAR 23, DEE 12.

WIG (2-1) @ DEL (1-2): Fresh off a blowout win against the Flyers, the Delle Chaparrals hoped to continue the momentum at home against the Wight Ravens, who were coming off a tough loss to the Gryphons. At the end of the third quarter, the Ravens led 12-0 on 4 FGs by K Dalton Kandoro. The Chaparrals’ offense rattled off 3 TDs in the fourth quarter to come back and seal the win. HB Robert Lavender led the Delle effort with 77 yards and TD and the ground and 27 yards and a TD in the air. Final: DEL 20, WIG 12.

LK (3-0) @ GR (0-3): The Lia Kompos Pumas responded to a Green Rock Warriors comeback with last-minute heroics of their own to remain the UPF’s only unbeaten team. Warriors QB William Kastaneda led a drive late in the game, culminating in a short 1-yard pass to TE William Dukes to complete a 17-0 comeback run and give the Warriors a 24-21 lead. With 1:13 remaining, Pumas QB Gerald Painter led a masterful drive that ended with a 7-yard TD run by HB David Juarez to regain the lead for Lia Kompos with 20 seconds left. Painter had 323 yards passing and 2 TDs in the game. Final: LK 27, GR 24.

ELD (2-1) @ NOR (0-3): Elderwood Archers QB Hugh Ricketts had a strong game against the Generals in Northsouth. He threw for 215 yards, an INT, and a TD, as well as rushing for 25 yards and a TD on 5 carries. The Archers ran rampant in the second half, outscoring the Generals 17-0 to cruise to a win and keep a share of first place in the NC West. Final: ELD 23, NOR 6.

TS (2-1) @ PER (1-2): The Tiny Sea Titans absolutely dominated the Petchon Predators at Franklyn Field in Petchon. The Predators scored an early safety on a sack in the endzone by DE Chris Aquino to make the sore 3-2, but that was as close they got to catching the Titans. Five Tiny Sea rushers combined for 175 rushing yards while Titans QB Leland James had 229 yards in the air, 2 TDs and no interceptions. The big win kept the Titans tied with the Archers in the NC West division. Final: TS 39, PET 2.

SAL (2-1) @ PLA (2-1): The Salvation Brothers and the Platte Cragsmen met at the Simmons Bowl in Platte. Both teams looked to bounce back from their first losses of the year in Week 3. The game was back and forth early on, with the Cragsmen taking a 16-7 lead into halftime. Platte held off a late comeback for the win, remaining in first place in the SC East. Platte QB Alvin Crane had 270 yards passing with 2 TDs and 1 INT. Final: PLA 16, SAL 14.

PC (2-1) @ RW (0-3): On a damp day by the bay, the Plains City Travelers beat up on the winless Redwood Flyers. Redwood actually outgained the Travelers 341 yards to 218 on offense, but couldn’t find the endzone all night. Plains City LB Howard Frederick had an incredible 15 tackles in the game. The Travelers’ second straight win puts them in a tie for first with Deerborn in the NC East. Final: PC 24, RW 6.
