Mario Olivo is tearing up the league and the Delle Stars are red-hot as we enter the final calendar month of the baseball season. The Stars are baseball’s top team, on a quest for an unprecedented third straight Windsor Cup championship.
With just 9 games to go in the NPL season, the Reapers are holding onto a slim lead with the Spiders, Lakers, and Metros threatening.

Monday, 8/28/1933
- White Sox SP Mathew Huertata was brilliant against the Herders today. He struck out 10 batters over 8 innings, allowing 1 run on just 3 hits and 1 walk. Deerborn beat Cherricaw, 3-1.
- Miners 2B Jose Meza hit 2 solo HRs today, but Stags LH starter Rich Smith shut down the Lia Kompos lineup otherwise, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 7 over 7 IP. Final: ROL 6, LK 2.
- Platte CF Andy Bernard teed off for a hat trick! He hit 3 of the Bears’ team total 7 HRs as they roundly beat baseball’s top team, the Delle Stars, 13-7. The loss brings the Stars into a tie for the UA’s best record with division rival Deerborn.
- Trail Blazers 3B Ugo Monnier tied the UA record with 2 triples in Prissley’s 15-5 rout of the Chargers. Taawa 2B Jose Sankez hit a double and a grand slam HR for the losing side.
Tuesday, 8/29/1933
- Rivals ace pitcher Sonny Hernankez has been told that he will miss at least 3 weeks with an ankle sprain. If all goes well, he could be eligible to pitch in the playoffs. Railey is currently 6 games out of a playoff spot.
- Miners CL Mark Sapfoot is done for the year with a strained hamstring. Lia Kompos beat Roland today, 4-2.
- White Sox SP Esteban Muiru was great in his first appearance with Deerborn since coming over in a trade from Prissley on Saturday. He pitched 8 innings, allowing 1 ER on 5 hits, in Deerborn’s 4-1 win over the Herders.
- Owls 1B Jack Garrett went 3 for 4 with a double and and a 3-run HR as Redwood beat Salvation, 9-2. The Brothers trail the Bears by 5 games in the UA West.
- Stars 3B Mario Olivo hit his 28th homer of the season in Delle’s 6-0 win over Platte. The two first-place teams will play the rubber match of their 3-game series tomorrow in Platte. The Stars remain tied with the White Sox for the league’s top record.
Wednesday, 8/30/1933
- Owls rookie C Mario Machupa had a career day at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a HR and 6 RBI. The Owls beat up on the Brothers, 17-4. Salvation trails Platte by 5 games in the UA West.
- Guardians star CL Peter Hernankez is done for the year after leaving tonight’s game with an elbow strain. Northsouth beat Railey in 10 innings, 6-5. The Guardians trail Platte by 5 games in the UA West.
- Chargers RF Aubin Francois went off tonight, going 4 for 6 with a double and a HR for 5 RBI and 3 runs scored. Taawa creamed Prissley, 18-3.
- A thrilling conclusion to the Stars/Bears series saw Delle come out on top in 11 innings, 6-5. Stars RF Antonio Teakowa hit the 200th HR of his career in the win. With the White Sox’ loss to the Herders, Delle once again takes sole possession of the league’s best record and first place in the East.
Thursday, 8/31/1933
- Guardians C Samy Morel had a 4-for-4 day with a 2-run HR in Northsouth’s 7-3 win over Deerborn.
- Bears RP Jim Stanley got a rare start, but left the game with shoulder subluxation. It could keep him out for a week or more. The Bears won their 50th game of the year, beating Prissley, 1-0. Platte leads the UA West by 5 games.
- Stars SP Ron Rivera’s season has come to an early end. He left today’s game after just 2 pitches with an oblique strain that will keep him out at least 5 weeks. It’s a tough blow to Delle as they continue to compete with the White Sox in the UA East standings.
- Stars 2-time MVP 3B Mario Olivo hit his league-best 29th HR in Delle’s 3-2 win over the Brothers. With Deerborn’s loss, the Stars now lead the White Sox by 2 games for the UA’s top record.
Friday, 9/1/1933
- Stars 3B Mario Olivo could be on his way to a third straight MVP award. He has won UA Batter of the Month for the second straight month in 1933. In 29 games in August, Olivo hit .390 with 9 HR and 22 RBI. He leads the league with 29 HRs and is second in batting average at .343. His 65 RBI have him just 1 back of the UA lead.
- The Stars have also claimed August’s Pitcher of the Month award, thanks to CL David Rogers. Rogers is a 5-time All-Star and has won Reliever of the Year twice. In August, he made 8 saves in 13 relief appearances, striking out 29 over 16.1 innings.
- Miners 23-year old RHP Arnold Williams is August’s UA Rookie of the Month. He made 2 starts and went 3-1 with a 2.76 ERA and 19 Ks over 16.1 innings.
- After being released by Railey in mid-August, RP Tim Mitchell has signed with Platte for $1.92 million. In 14 appearances this year with the Rivals, Mitchell has struck out 21 batters in 18 innings for a 1.50 ERA.
- Deerborn lost their third straight game, falling to Northsouth, 6-5 in 11 innings. White Sox 2B Luke Lia Puedris went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI in the loss.
- Miners 22-year old LF Jorge Aguilar went deep twice for 4 RBI in Lia Kompos’s 10 inning, 4-3 win over Railey. The Rivals remain 5 games back of Deerborn for the UA Wild Card.
- 1B Pedro Bausi hit his 28th HR and RF Antonio Teakowa hit his 27th as the Stars beat Salvation again, 4-3, remaining the top team in baseball and extending their lead over Deerborn to 3 games. Delle SP Pat Carter went 7 scoreless innings with 7 Ks for the win.
Saturday, 9/2/1933
- Stars 1B Pedro Bausi tied teammate Mario Olivo today for the UA home run lead. They both have 29. Delle beat Salvation, 8-1. Delle is 3.5 games ahead of Deerborn, pending the outcome of their game against Northsouth this evening.
- The White Sox won a thriller at home against the Guardians in 12 innings, 7-6. After 5 perfect innings, and just 1 hit in the 6th, legendary Deerborn starter Jorge Takato fell apart in the 7th. He allowed 2 HR in the inning and allowed a run a wild pitch, giving Northsouth a 4-2 lead. White Sox LF Juan Tumaini hit a 2-run single in the bottom of the 9th to force extra innings, and 23-year old SS Omar Noel walked it off in the 12th with an RBI single. Deerborn remains 3 games back of the Stars in the East.
- Roland 3B Antonio Said hit 2 HRs and had 6 RBI, while teammate LF Jose Lia Tinta hit 2 doubles and a HR for 5 RBI. The Stags rallied with 5 runs on a HR by each player in the 9th to tie the game, then scored 3 in the 12th to beat Redwood, 13-10.

- 3B Ryad Renaud and LF Allen Hendrix both had 2-HR days as the Spiders beat the Reapers, 9-4. The win brings Wight within 2 games of Plains City for the NPL lead.
- Metros RF Jack Perryman hit 2 doubles and a HR for 5 total RBI in Tiny Sea’s 8-6 win over Petchon.
- Elderwood 1B Blake Mercier hit his NPL-best 19th HR in the Lakers’ 12-3 rout of the Kings. The Lakers trail the Reapers by 2 games.
Tuesday, 8/29/1933
- Carp SP Mark Flower struck out 7 batters over 5 scoreless innings as Petchon beat Lia Puedris, 1-0, on a solo HR by 24-year old LF Gurr Gurr.
- The Spiders beat the Canaries (6-3) and the Lakers beat the Reapers (5-1). This brings Plains City’s lead to just one game over both Elderwood and Wight. 11 games remain in the NPL season.
Wednesday, 8/30/1933
- Reapers 24-year old phenom SP Achille Roy struck out 8 batters and allowed 1 run on 5 hits over 5.2 innings as Plains City beat Elderwood, 4-2, to extend their lead over the Lakers to 2 games.
- Spiders LF Allen Hendrix had another great game, going 3 for 4 with a double and a HR for 5 total RBI. The Spiders beat the Canaries, 9-3. Wight remains 1 game behind the Reapers for the NPL lead.
Thursday, 8/31/1933
- In a 4 hour and 22 minute, 15-inning marathon pitcher’s duel, the Reapers took the rubber match in Elderwood, 2-0. The Lakers fall 3 games behind the Reapers with the loss. Lakers starter Fabio Mora struck out 7 batters and allowed just 1 hit over 5.1 scoreless innings.
- Metros LF Ambroise Forestier went 4 for 4 with 2 homers for 4 RBI and 4 runs scored, plus a walk. 3B Juan Korrea hit a double and a HR for 4 total RBI. Tiny Sea stuck it to Trimble, 12-7.
- The Canaries walked off in the 10th on a pinch hit RBI single by Peter Avery, beating the Spiders, 4-3. Wight trails Plains City by 2 games after the loss.
Friday, 9/1/1933
- Canaries LH starter Doyle Lane went 6 scoreless innings and allowed just 2 hits in Carver’s 1-0 win over Tiny Sea.
- Plains City SP Jeff Starks went 8 innings with 0 ER in the Reapers’ 3-1 win over Petchon.
- Wight LF Allen Hendrix hit his 5th HR of the week, but the Lakers came out on top, 2-1. The win evens the Spiders’ and Lakers’ records, putting them both 3 games behind the Reapers for first place.
Saturday, 9/2/1933
- Toppers rookie SP Cherif Ferry allowed just 1 hit over 5 scoreless innings in Trimble’s 3-0 win over the Kings.
- Reapers Golden Bat 2B Britt Mujer left the game with a torso injury that has not yet been diagnosed. The Carp won in Plains City, 6-5.
- Canaries LF Jose Trujillo hit 2 doubles and a solo HR, but Carver lost to Tiny Sea, 4-2.
- Wight LF ALlen Hendrix stayed hot, going 3 for 5 with a double and a HR for 4 total RBI. The Spiders walked off in the 11th inning on a solo shot from 1B Lier Semb. The Spiders are 2 games behind Plains City while the Lakers are 3 back. Wight and Elderwood will play the finale of their series tomorrow.
Sunday, 9/3/1933
- Petchon LF Gurr Gurr went 4 for 4 with a double and 3 runs scored as the Carp took another game from the first-place Reapers.
- Spiders 3B Ryad Renaud hit his league-best 20th HR of the season, but Elderwood came out on top in the rubber match in Wight, 3-2. The Spiders and Lakers both trail Plains city by 2 games.
- Canaries SP Tim Coffman went 6 scoreless innings with just 2 hits and 5 Ks, but The Metros got the better of Carver’s bullpen and won the game, 2-1. Tiny Sea trails the Reapers by 4 games.
- Trimble 1B Lee Gutierrekaz took the NPL lead with his 21st homer as the Toppers beat the Kings, 8-1.
- With the NPL’s top four all-time teams promoting to the UA next season under UUBO realignment, the Canaries currently lead the Lakers by 3 games for the fourth and final promotion spot. This is in terms of cumulative record over the NPL’s four seasons. The 1933 NPL season has 9 games remaining.
