August 14, 1933

Stars 1B Pedro Bausi earns his 2nd PotW award this season! He had another great week, hitting .364 with 5 HR and 8 RBI. He also scored 8 times this week.

Baseball’s top team, the Deerborn White Sox, had a big week with games against Delle and Platte.

The NPL race is red-hot, with four teams within striking distance of first place as we enter the last month of the season.

Monday, 8/7/1933

  • Deerborn SP Jorge Takato struck out 8 batters over 7 innings of work and took the series with a 3-2 win over the division rival Delle Stars. The White Sox are the first team to 40 wins and lead the UA East by 2 games.

    Wednesday, 8/9/1933

    • Stags CF Ramon Zuniga tied Bob Hove for the UA HR lead with his 24th dinger of the year on a 4-for-5 day. Roland beat Salvation, 12-2.
    • Rivals SP Sonny Hernankez struck out 9 batters over 7 IP, giving up 1 run on 6 hits. Railey beat Platte, 3-1.
    • The Stars teed off against the Herders. Alex Terawaa and Pedro Bausi each had 2-HR days and Mario Olivo tied the league lead with his 24th HR. Delle blanked Cherricaw, 10-0. Delle SP Jeff Rogers went 8 scoreless innings with just 4 hits.

    Thursday, 8/10/1933

    • Roland CF Ramon Zuniga went deep again for his 25th HR to take the lead in the UA home run race. The Stags beat the Brothers again, 5-3.
    • Railey C Pedro Romanota hit 2 HR, but the Bears held off the Rivals, 10-7.
    • Stars C Jon Garcika hit a double and a HR for 5 total RBI as Delle blanked Cherricaw, 6-0. Delle SP Ron Rivera gave up just 1 hit over 5.1 IP.
    • Owls all-star SP Jose Verdier left the game tonight with a finger blister. He expects to make his next start. The Owls beat the Guardians, 4-2. Northsouth trails Platte by 3 games in the UA West.

    Friday, 8/11/1933

    • Roland swept Salvation with an 8-3 win at home. The Brothers trail the Bears by 4 games in the West.
    • White Sox starter Mathew Huertata racked up 12 Ks in 7 innings as Deerborn beat Prissley in 12 innings, 4-3. Luke Lia Puedris walked it off with a solo home run. Deerborn swept Prissley and has now won 5 straight.
    • Delle 3B Mario Olivo hit 2 more HR today to bring his now-UA-leading total to 26. The Stars swept Cherricaw with a 12-1 thrashing.
    • Rivals young SP Howard Ferguson struck out 7 in 7 scoreless innings. Railey took 2 of 3 from Platte with a 6-2 win today.

    Saturday, 8/12/1933

    • Owls SS Fouad Lefevre hit a pair of homers in Redwood’s 14-2 trouncing of Lia Kompos.
    • Rivals LF Julio Kastro hit a double and 2 HR for 5 total RBI, but Railey dropped the game to Salvation, 9-6. Brothers 1B Juan Adili hit 2 doubles and a HR in the win.
    • Stars 1B Pedro Bausi went deep for the 23rd time. He now has 5 HR in his last 5 games. Delle beat Northsouth, 4-1.
    • Bears RF Gurr Gurr hit his 19th and 20th HRs in Platte’s 5-2 win over Deerborn in a battle of first-place teams. White Sox SP Martin Westfield left in the 2nd inning with an apparent leg injury.

    Sunday, 8/13/1933

    • Lia Kompos is looking ahead to the future, sending 2B Chet Rojatas and RP Orlando Lia Puedris to Tiny Sea, and RP Teo Deschamps to Elderwood in the NPL in exchange for prospects.
    • The Miners got an inspiring performance from rookie SP Arnold Williams today after a pair of trades effectively closed the book on the team’s 1933 season. Williams allowed just 3 hits in 7 scoreless innings and struck out 9. Final: LK 5, RW 3.
    • Rookie Herders SP Bobby Herald allowed just 1 hit and struck out 8 over 5.2 scoreless innings. Cherricaw beat Prissley, 3-0.
    • White Sox RF Curt Sawyer hit a pair of homers as Deerborn bounced back for a 6-4 win in Platte. The Bears will be without RPs Justin Russell and Luis Adelabu for about a week. Russell has a sore elbow and Adelabu is dealing with a recurring blister. The Bears end the week 2 games in front of the Guardians in the West, while the White Sox have the league’s best record and lead the Stars by in the East.

    Monday, 8/7/1933

    • Tiny Sea SP Carlos Pultudos allowed just 2 hits over 7.1 scoreless innings as the Metros topped the Toppers, 4-0.
    • The Spiders took over first place in the NPL today with a 4-3 win over the Canaries.
    • Reapers SP Tom Vickers allowed only 1 hit over 7 scoreless innings. Plains City beat Elderwood, 8-2, pulling into a tie with the Lakers, 1 game behind Wight for first place.
    • Lia Puedris unloaded on Petchon, winning 17-0 at Kings Stadium.

    Tuesday, 8/8/1933

    • Reapers 36-year old RH SP Justin Antoine struck out 7 over 5 1-run innings, but left the game with elbow inflammation. He will miss 5 weeks. Plains City did get the win again over Elderwood, 5-3.
    • Wight CF Jim Ellison hit a pair of HR as the Spiders beat the Canaries again to remain in first. Final: WIG 9, CAR 3.

    Thursday, 8/10/1933

    • Reapers SP Achille Roy went 7 scoreless innings as Plains City beat Petchon, 8-0. The Carp have now been shut out in 3 straight games.
    • Metros SP Darby Ramirekaz allowed just a single hit and notched 7 Ks over 6.2 IP in Tiny Sea’s 1-0 win versus Carver.
    • The first-place Spiders took game 1 from the Lakers, 6-3. Wight 3B Ryad Renaud hit his 12th and 13th HRs in a 3-for-4 night. Wight now leads the NPL by 1 game over Plains City while Elderwood and Tiny Sea are tied for 3rd, 3 games back.

    Friday, 8/11/1933

    • The Reapers swept the Carp with a 2-1 win in Petchon. Plains City LHP David Isa struck out 6 batters in 6 innings of relief.
    • Carver 3B David Holmes went 3 for 3 with 2 HR as Carver beat Tiny Sea, 3-2.
    • Lakers RF Pedro Lia Suunu hit a double and 2 HR as Elderwood bounced back for a win against Wight, 11-8. The Spiders and Lakers are now tied for first, with Elderwood 2 games back.
    • Kings LF Jorge Akil hit his league-best 15th HR, but the Toppers avoided a sweep with a 7-5 win in Lia Puedris.

    Saturday, 8/12/1933

    • Lakers 3B Patrick Tokorres went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. Elderwood took the rubber match from Wight, 5-2. The Lakers now trail Wight/Plains City by just 1 game.
    • Toppers SP Elliot Gaillard struck out 9 batters in 8.2 IP and gave up a run. Kings SP Greg Crepin struck out 7 batters in 6.2 scoreless innings, but Trimble beat Lia Puedris in a 15-inning affair, 2-1.

    Sunday, 8/13/1933

    • Metros SP Albert Sumait allowed just 1 run on 2 hits in 7 IP as Tiny Sea beat Wight, 9-2.
    • Lia Kompos is looking ahead to the future, sending 2B Chet Rojatas and RP Orlando Lia Puedris to Tiny Sea, and RP Teo Deschamps to Elderwood in the NPL in exchange for prospects.
    • Kings LF Jorge Akil is currently on pace for the first-ever NPL batting triple crown. He leads the league in AVG, HR, and RBI.
