Lia Kompos Pumas QB John Parva’s return from injury results in an incredible day, completing 20 of 31 passes for 322 yards and 5 TDs to become the first UPFF player ever to win a second PotW award.

Salvation Brothers CB John Espinoza is this week’s Defensive Player of the Week. He had 7 tackles, one of which was a sack of Taawa QB James De La Cruz for a safety.
Unfortunately, due to ISP issues, Uplantic Football is back to a blog-only format, indefinitely. The connection just isn’t reliable enough for streaming to work on a regular schedule. I’ll still be doing retro game streams on twitch.tv/lowkisapfoot when the ISP allows for it. Maybe we can figure out a stable connection for a playoffs special or something.
Follow LowkiSapfoot on twitch to watch live broadcasts, someday, again, maybe!

Week 11 Scoreboard:

PC (4-5) @ NOR (8-1): The Plains City Travelers went to Northsouth to challenge the first-place Athletics. Plains City snapped a 5-game losing streak in Week 10, but the A’s had been firing on all cylinders and were riding a 6-game win streak. The A’s defense continued its recent dominance in this game and led Northsouth to another convincing win. FS Roy Gilles brought down his third interception of the year as the Northsouth D held the Travelers to just 205 yards on offense. The Travelers did not score a touchdown until the final 1:10 of the game. QB Branden Warren and RB Jake Wood were outstanding for Northsouth on the offensive side of the ball as well. Warren completed 29 of 38 passes for a 76.3% completion rate, 347 yards and 4 TDs, targeting WR Ilias Larue for 7 catches for 123 receiving yards and 2 TDs. Jake Wood rushed for 97 yards on just 9 touches for a 10.8-yard average. With this loss, the Travelers are, ironically, 0-4 on the road. Northsouth looks ahead to this weekend, with a chance to clinch the top spot in the conference with a Titans loss against the Archers. Final: NOR 34, PC 10.

TAA (4-5) @ SAL (3-6): The Taawa Jackals traveled to Tiny Sea to take on the Salvation Brothers, with these two teams seemingly moving in opposite directions. The Jackals had lost 4 straight games after a great start to the year. The Brothers had won 3 of their last 4 after an 0-5 start to this season. The teams traded field goals early on until QB James De La Cruz led Taawa to a TD on a 3-yard rush by Garth Cervetankos in the second quarter. Salvation answered with a pair of touchdown passes from QB Terry Odom, who played in this game while still healing from a broken cheekbone. The Brothers led 20-10 at halftime. The Jackals were stymied by the Brothers defense in the second half, and hurt their own cause with a litany of costly penalties. “I was bad. Again. I really don’t know what to say. It’s on me.” These were Taawa QB James De La Cruz’s words to the media after the team’s fifth straight loss. For the Brothers, Odom threw 3 TDs and zero INTs, while the league’s leading rusher, RB Milo Whaley picked up 102 yards on the ground. Final: SAL 32, TAA 10.

LK (6-3) @ DEL (5-4): This week’s Game of the Week featured the first-place Lia Kompos Pumas visiting the second-place Delle Chaparrals with the top spot in the Southern Conference on the line. The Pumas came out on top in their first meeting back in Week 7, 26-23. With many fans clamoring for third string QB Brian Berton, original starter John Parva made his return from a stress fracture in his foot. Parva got the scoring started with a 28-yard strike to WR Dennis Angeles. QB Hubert Aguirre of the Chaparrals answered immediately with a 72-yard bomb to WR Millard Corbett. Parva and the Pumas went back on top with another scoring drive in the second quarter to take a 14-7 lead into the half. Aguirre answered in the third with another TD connection to Corbett, this time for 37 yards. Parva grabbed the lead back in two plays with two passes to WR Henry Salomin, the second for a 26-yard touchdown. Ineffective drives and a costly fumble by WR Tony Muriuki in Pumas territory cost the Chaps, and the Pumas pulled away in the fourth quarter. Parva threw 2 more TD passes, to Salomin and to WR Joseph Kardenas. Parva finished with 322 yards and 5 TDs, zero INTs. For the Chaparrals, Aguirre came out of the game with concussion symptoms in the third quarter, leaving backup QB Aukekero Fueunati’i to finish the game. Parva’s triumphant return to the field could spell trouble for the rest of the SC with 3 weeks to go in the Regular Season. Final: LK 35, DEL 21.

ELD (3-6) @ TS (5-4): The Elderwood Archers headed to Tiny Sea to play the Titans with their 1932 season on the ropes. After a 3-1 start, the Archers had lost 5 straight, along with starting QB Jerry Pettis, out for the rest of the year with an ankle sprain. Things had been up-and-down for the Titans, but they came into this game enjoying a 3-game win streak and second place in the NC. After a fantastic 77-yard punt return by Christopher Johnson set up the Titans’ second TD of the first quarter, it looked like the Archers were in for another long day. Archers QB Derek Alvarrdo unloaded a 63-yard bomb to WR Benjamin Magnin the second, but the Titans held the lead at halftime, 20-7. Elderwood started the third quarter with the ball and held it for an 8-minute-22-second scoring drive to make it 20-14. After a field goal by K Robert Vang, LB Dallas Amalla intercepted a pass from Titans QB Robert Calabrese to set up a 30-yard rushing TD by RB Dudley Felicianotos to give the Archers a 24-20 lead to start the fourth. The final quarter was a defensive stalemate until Alvarrdo threw a short pass to WR Curtis Olveira that he turned into a 90-yard TD. Calabrese and the Titans scored again and managed a 2-point conversion to make it 31-28, but failed to recover an onside kick with 0:36 to go. The Archers keep their playoffs with a solid win on the road. The Tiny Sea loss guarantees the Northsouth Athletics the NC’s top record and home field advantage in the SC Championship at the end of the Regular Season. Final: ELD 31, TS 28.

PLA (4-5) @ GR (3-6): The Platte Cragsmen visited the Green Rock Warriors on Monday night. Platte QB Alvin Crane had promised a Cragsmen playoff appearance, and Platte had been 4-1 since starting 0-4. The Warriors had been hit-or-miss all season, coming into Week 11 on a 2-game losing streak. Platte’s evening started with a fumble by WR Apari Najela on the game’s first play. The Cragsmen held on defense and went on to enjoy a 13-3 halftime lead after Green Rock QB William Kastaneda left the game with a pulled hamstring just before halftime and did not return. The game turned into a slug-fest in the third quarter. The Warriors scored 3 rushing TDs in the quarter, including a 55-yarder and an 82-yarder by RB George James. Alvin Crane threw a 66-yard bomb to WR Richard Apodaka and a 22-yard TD to Apari Najela. The Cragsmen held a 27-24 lead at the end of the third quarter. The pace died down in the final quarter. Green Rock tied the game with an 18-yard chip-shot FG by K Jason Butler after a drive that took a whopping 9:25 off the clock. The Warriors defense then forced a three-and-out to get the ball back at their own 4 yard line with 1:36 remaining. On 4th and 7, with 0:41 left, Green Rock backup QB Aukake’e Montoya hit WR Joseph Setello down the sideline for a 67-yard TD for the dramatic comeback win. Warriors starter William Kastaneda is expected to play next week against the Athletics. Final: GR 34, PLA 27.
News:
- With three games to go in the Regular Season, every single team in the UPFF remains within 1 game of a playoff spot. The Northsouth A’s are the only team who has clinched a playoff berth. They will host the Northern Conference Championship at the end of the Regular Season. The Lia Kompos Pumas lead the Southern Conference by 2 games with 3 to go. In both the Northern and Southern, the second place team holds just a 1-game lead over the rest of the teams in the conference. It’s truly still anyone’s season to to claim the Pennington Cup, but at this point the A’s are the clear favorite.
- Titans QB Robert Calabrese seems to be the favorite for league MVP so far, leading the UPFF with 3,062 passing yards and 26 TDs. QB Alvin Crane of the Cragsmen has been impressive as well, and making good on his playoff guarantee might go a long way toward MVP consideration. RBs Milo Whaley (SAL) and Robert Lavender (DEL) have also been mentioned in the MVP conversation.
- Archers FB Lee Gorgas is “probable” to return in Week 12 against Lia Kompos after missing this week’s game against Tiny Sea with a sprained wrist. WRs Glen Lloyd (hamstring) and Benjamin Magnin (bruised jaw) were banged up, but are listed as “probable” for the Pumas game.
- Chaparrals QB Hubert Aguirre is likely to play in Week 12 against the Cragsmen, although he is still experiencing blurred vision. FS Robert Monterola is “doubtful” for the game.
- Warriors QB William Kastaneda (pulled hamstring) and RB Vincent Williams (ankle sprain) are both “probable” for Week 11 against the Athletics.
- Platte SS Joey Ferrusquia will miss 1-2 weeks with a broken finger. WR Harry Helu missed this week’s game with a broken finger as well, but is listed as “probable” for a Week 12 return against Delle.
- The Northsouth defense is the league’s best, but they will be without LB Taylor Maldonado (hyper extended knee) for 1-2 weeks. SS Richard Guy (knee) is listed as “probable” to return for Week 12 against the Warriors.
- Salvation QB Terry Odom is still healing from a fractured cheekbone, but is expected to play again this week in a crucial game against rival Tiny Sea.
- Travelers SS Rex Goldstein is listed as “probable” to return for Week 12 against the Jackals after missing this week with a fractured hip.
- Titans RB John Olivares (deep thigh bruise) missed Week 11 against the Archers and is still “doubtful” for the upcoming game against Salvation.
