1932-33 UPFF: Week 10

November 8, 1932

Delle Chaparrals WR Amarina’a Martin is Week 10’s Offensive Player of the Week. He had 8 receptions for 132 yards and a TD in Delle’s big division win over the Jackals.

Plains City FS Frank Constant had 6 tackles, grabbed 2 INTs, and returned one for a pick-six on his way to winning Defensive Player of the Week for Week 10.

Unfortunately, due to ISP issues, Uplantic Football is back to a blog-only format, indefinitely. The connection just isn’t reliable enough for streaming to work on a regular schedule. I’ll still be doing retro game streams on twitch.tv/lowkisapfoot when the ISP allows for it. Maybe we can figure out a stable connection for a playoffs special or something.

Follow LowkiSapfoot on twitch to watch live broadcasts, someday, again, maybe!

Week 10 Scoreboard:

LK (6-2) @ NOR (7-1): The Lia Kompos Pumas, first in the SC, visited the Northsouth Athletics, first in the NC, in a possible preview of the Uplantic Bowl. The Pumas came into this game with some QB controversy after third-stringer Brian Berton had been outstanding in the last three games (including a record-setting effort last week against against Plains City). But with second-stringer Solomon Brito (turf toe) well enough to play, Berton took a seat for this big game. The Athletics’ number one defense came out strong in this contest, frustrating Brito and the Pumas’ offense all evening. The Pumas were held to just 34 yards rushing and 176 yards passing. The A’s kept Lia Kompos out of the end zone until the final 1:01 of the game in a dominant win for the league’s top team. Northsouth QB Branden Warren spread the love on 3 TD passes to 3 different receivers, racking up 292 yards on a 69.2% completion rate. The Athletics absolutely dominated the Pumas from whistle to whistle. The big question over the next month and heading into the UPFF playoffs: Can anyone stop the Northsouth Athletics? Final: NOR 40, LK 10.

DEL (4-4) @ TAA (4-4): The Taawa Jackals and the Delle Chaparrals met for the second time this season, with second place in the SC on the line. After the Pumas’ loss on Thursday, the winner of this game would be just a game out of first in the conference. Both teams came into Week 10 off of losses, witht he Jackals looking to end a 3-game skid. The Chaps came out on top in a thriller in Week 8 in Delle, 26-23. In this week’s game, quarterback play was the difference between two fairly evenly matched teams. Taawa QB James De La Cruz was ineffective, going just 12 for 31 for 159 yards in the air and throwing 2 INTs. On the other side, QB Hubert Aguirre was sufficient if not great, completing 62.9% of passes for 312 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. Aguirre’s 28-yard TD pass to WR Amarina’a Martin in the first quarter was the only touchdown of the game. Amarina’a ended up with 132 yards receiving on 8 catches. The Chaps defense pitched a shutout in the end, moving into a playoff spot and now trailing the Pumas by just 1 game in the SC standings. The Chaps will play the Pumas next week. Final: DEL 19, TAA 0.

ELD (3-5) @ PC (3-5): The Elderwood Archers and Plains City Travelers were both in free-fall in Week 10 after strong starts to the year. Elderwood had lost 4 straight games and Plains City had lost 5 straight. To make matters worse, both teams are without their starting quarterbacks for the remainder of the season. If either team had a chance to get back on track and make a run at the playoffs, this game was a must-win. Backup QBs Derek Alvarrdo (ELD) and Neal Valentin (PC) took over with their teams’ seasons on the line. The Archers struck first with a 37-yard FG by K Robert Vang, but the Travelers turned the tables on 2 INTs of Derek Alvarrdo passes. FS Frank Constant returned the second INT 32 yards for a pick-six. The Travelers led 17-3 at the end of the first quarter. Alvarrdo and the Archers fought back and trailed by just 10 points at the end of the third quarter, but the Travelers came out swinging in the fourth. After 2 drives ending in TD runs by RB Arnold Egan had Plains City up by 24, Frank Constant’s second INT of the day put the Archers on ice. Final: PC 54, ELD 27.

News:

  • After QB Solomon Brito’s uninspiring performance against the Athletics, Pumas head coach Timothy Mokoron had nothing to say to the media when asked who the starter would be in Week 11. Original starting QB John Parva (foot stress fracture) is “probable” for the upcoming game against Delle, but fans are calling for third string QB Brian Berton who has the best overall passer rating in the league over his 3 appearances this year. Mokoron simply shook his head and said “We’ll see,” when speaking to the media after the blowout loss to the Athletics.
  • Travelers SS Rex Goldstein had an interception in this week’s game but is “doubtful” for Week 11 against Northsouth after suffering a broken hip later in the game.
  • Athletics CB Jonathan Hoalohanani’i is “probable” against the Travelers after missing Week 10 with blurred vision. However, CB Damon Francis will miss the rest of the season after tearing a quad muscle.
  • Salvation Brothers QB Terry Odom is expected to play in Week 11 against the Jackals after fracturing his cheekbone in Week 9.
  • Platte RB Bob Whittaker (broken finger) is “probable” for Week 11 against the Warriors. WR Harry Helu (broken finger) is “questionable.” Platte has a chance to move into second place in the SC with a win. Cragsmen QB Alvin Crane has guaranteed a playoff appearance despite the team’s 0-4 start.
  • Warriors RB Vincent Williams (sprained ankle) is “questionable” for Week 11 against the Cragsmen.
