The Stags’ Albert Pentana is Player of the Week for Week 3. He had 8 hits this week, 5 of which were home runs, with a total of 9 RBIs. He hit .333 for the week. He’s just 1 long ball behind teammate Jose Lia Tinta’s 10 for the league lead in home runs on the season with 9.

The Bears, Guardians, and White Sox battled for the top spot in the UA standings in week 3. This week gave us some great individual pitching performances as well as a combined 1-hitter on Sunday!

UA News:

  • RH RP Don Neal signs a 1-year deal with the Platte Bears. Neal pitched very well for Deerborn last year before becoming a free agent. (6/21)
  • Platte Bears LH SP Craig Ogg achieves a complete game shutout against the Taawa Chargers. He gives up only 2 hits in the game and finishes with 14 strikeouts, 1 K short of tying the single-game record. Final: PLA 8, TAA 0. (6/24)
  • Deerborn White Sox 2B Luke Lia Puedris will likely miss 4-5 weeks with recurring back spasms. He heads to the 10-day IL. (6/24)
  • Lia Kompos Miners CF Jimmy Hamm is on the IL with a back strain. The team says he could be affected for up to 2 weeks. (6/26)
  • Railey Rivals RHP Michael Mercer holds the Herders scoreless over 9 innings, allowing 5 hits and striking out 5 batters. Railey beats Cherricaw 1-0. (6/26)
  • The Bears and Guardians face off in the first of 3 games between the top two teams in the UA West. Both teams come into the match-up riding 9-game win streaks. The Guardians put up 3 in the top of the 9th on a bomb by 2B Francisco Aguilera, and the Guardians win streak reaches 10 games with a 5-2 win in Platte. They now trail the Bears by 1 game in the division. (6/26)
  • Stars LHP Jeffrey Irvin strikes out 7 over 6 innings and allows just 1 hit as the Delle Stars pitching staff combines for a 1-hitter against the Salvation Brothers. The Stars win by a final of 3 to 0. (6/26)
  • Cherricaw Herders CF Ed DeMent has to leave Saturday’s game after coming up injured on a slide into second base. This morning, the Herders announce that he has been diagnosed with a sports hernia in his hip. DeMent’s return in 1932 is not likely. This will mark the first UA season in which DeMent does not earn the stolen base title. (6/27)

NPL Spring Training Watch:

  • Tiny Sea Metros 2B Gabriel Zapaka bangs his elbow on a collision on the base paths. His elbow is sore, but x-rays came back negative. The Metros expect him to be available on Opening Day, July 1. (6/22)
  • Lia Puedris Kings LH SP Greg Crepin has a herniated disc in his neck. He will likely miss about half of the 1932 NPL Regular Season. (6/24)
  • Today marks the final day of Spring Training games in the NPL. The 70-game Regular Season gets going this Friday! (6/27)
