May 2, 1932

The long winter months have come to an end! Pitchers and catchers reported to practice facilities last month, and today 1932 Spring Training games will begin in the Uplantic Association. UA teams have once again gathered in Amblint, Medland to narrow down their rosters over the next month for the upcoming Regular Season.

The offseason has seen some major trades and free agent signings. Among the biggest names donning new uniforms in 1932, OF Andy Thompson is headed from Salvation to Northsouth, OF John Bunce is headed from Cherricaw to Prissley, and OF Juan Tumaini is headed from Prissley to Deerborn. Read below for the latest moves across the UA and NPL ahead of the 1932 season.

The UA Regular Season begins in June. For the first time, Crystalline Casting will allow fans to watch their favorite teams live from anywhere on the continent! (Available on Earth via twitch.tv/LowkiSapfoot, beginning in September.)

News:

November:

  • C Luka Joubert is heading from Salvation to Deerborn. The Brothers send their star backstop to the White Sox for five young prospects. (11/24)
  • The Brothers’ rebuild continues today as they ship CF Howard Tenney to the NPL’s Plains City Reapers in exchange for two young prospects. (11/24)
  • The Delle Stars send young starting CF Jesus Vazquiza and two prospects to the Taawa Chargers in exchange for 30-year old 1B Eric Jackson. (11/25)
  • The Petchon Carp sign LH SP Domingo Lia Itoldino to a 5-year deal worth over $20 million. The move has some questioning the Petchon brass, as the free agent pitcher has spent the last 4 seasons in Deerborn with minimal success out of the bullpen. (11/29)
  • After winning NPL Reliever of the Year in 1931 with an ERA of 0.84 while playing for Elderwood, RHP Jeff Collier has signed with the Roland Stags in the UA. He will make $1.24 million over 2 years. (11/29)

December:

  • The Bears receive 27-year old RH SP Pancho Romo from the Salvation Brothers as Salvation’s fire sale continues. The Bears give up six prospects in exchange. (12/7)
  • The Delle Stars land 35-year old RH RP Francisco Katrikowa, along with infield prospect Roy Evans, in a trade with the Carver Canaries in the NPL. The Canaries receive SS Mahamadou Constant and young LF Gus Moore. (12/9)
  • 28-year old megastar LF Juan Tumaini is headed to the Deerborn White Sox. The White Sox confirmed a trade today with the Prissley Trail Blazers. Prissley receives 3B Hunter Phillips and a handful of prospects in the deal. (12/13)
  • Oft-injured superstar outfielder Andy Thompson has been traded by the Salvation Brothers. The Northsouth Guardians continue to make big moves as they receive Thompson in exchange for 19-year old prospect RHP Tony Lia Taawa. Thompson is among the league’s best players, but he has missed nearly half of his potential playing time during his career due to various injuries. He will turn 34 this season. (12/13)
  • The Guardians are setting themselves up as the odds-on favorite in 1932. Northsouth’s latest addition is much-vaunted righty reliever Raul Babechi. Babechi will make $8.88 million over 3 years. (12/13)
  • Free agent RH RP Ferdinand Barthe signs a 2-year deal with the Platte Bears. Barthe has pitched well in limited innings for various teams in his career thus far. (12/15)
  • Francisco for Francisco! The Carver Canaries add 34-year old 1B Francisco Kosgei from the Roland Stags in a cross-league trade. The Stags receive 22-year old SS Francisco Garza in the deal. Kosgei has been a consistent offensive threat for Roland, while Garza is well-regarded by scouts, but has not yet appeared in a professional game. (12/18)
  • After two seasons at DH with the Petchon Carp in the NPL, 36-year old Pedro Bausi has been traded to the Delle Stars of the UA, where he will likely play first base. The Carp receive 20-year old RHP Nick Kelly in the trade. (12/26)
  • Former Windsor Cup champ, CF Jimmy Hamm, is headed back to the UA after being traded from the NPL’s Plains City Reapers. He will play for the Lia Kompos Miners in 1932, along with RHP Amin Forestier. RHP Tim Farmer heads to Plains City in the deal. (12/29)

  • Bears two-time all-star SP Julio Martinezto suffered a fractured wrist and multiple contusions when he tumbled down the stairs in his Platte home. This injury comes just a few days before Martinezto’s 40th birthday. He will be fully recovered in time for spring training, but there is some concern about reinjury when he resumes pitching. (1/7)
  • The Guardians add another quality reliever in LHP Carter Brown. Northsouth receives Brown from the Taawa Chargers in exchange for four young prospects. (1/13)
  • The Salvation Brothers and Elderwood Lakers have finalized a trade that will send 1B Juan Adili and prospect LHP Vaugh Kutakuto to the Brothers, while the Lakers will receive RH SP Mike Gurr. Gurr missed significant time last year with a herniated disc, but says he is feeling good coming into 1932. (1/14)
  • The Roland Stags have dealt all-star C Felix Kordero to the Plains City Reapers in return for a handful of prospects. Despite this loss of talent, the Stags have a solid roster and are a prime contender for the Windsor Cup in 1932. (1/25)

February:

  • Prissley has acquired star LF John Bunce from the Cherricaw Herders. The Herders will receive two young pitchers in return. Bunce is reportedly unhappy with the deal, which caught the five-tool phenom by surprise. “I wasn’t expecting this trade, but I’m excited to get started down in Toford,” he said. (2/7)

March:

  • After four years in the UA with Taawa and Northsouth, 1B Nathan Crayton is headed to the Trimble Toppers in the NPL. He signed a 1-year deal worth $1.64 million. (3/10)
  • Veteran OF Jorge Akil is headed back to where it all began. The Redwood Owls have traded Akil to the NPL’s Lia Puedris Kings. Akil made his name with the Kings over 13 seasons when they were a touring team, then known as Milner’s Baseball Kings. The Owls will receive 24-year old pitching prospect Connor Johnston in the trade. (3/22)
  • UA pitchers and catchers report to their team facilities today! Spring Training begins in just over a month! (3/28)

  • After a career-best year in Petchon, 3B Fure Len is headed back to the Railey Rivals in a trade. Len spent part of 1929 with the Rivals. He is expected to play a much bigger role on the team this time around. Railey traded 20-year old infielder Gurr Skagen to the Carp in the deal. (4/14)
  • The Lia Kompos Miners have traded RF Tim Moore to the Elderwood Lakers in the NPL. In return, the Miners receive C Jeffrey Evans. (4/22)

May:

  • After rumors of being connected to Petchon, Delle, Carver, and Salvation, RH RP Francisco Terawaa remains unsigned with Spring Training games beginning tomorrow in Amblint, Medland. Terawaa was an all-star, and was touted as a clubhouse leader by his teammates on the Stars, helping them to their first Windsor Cup title last season. He also had the best season of his career in 1931, striking out 85 batters in 60.1 IP. (5/1)
