UA News:

5/30:

  • White Sox RH RP Joao Thery will miss more time than originally expected. According to a team press release, he will miss at least three more weeks while he undergoes treatment for a strained rotator cuff.

5/31:

  • The Redwood Owls’ rebuild sends veteran RH SP Will Shufflebottom to the Bears in exchange for 20-year RHP Joseph Carr. Shufflebottom will help the defending champs shore up their starting rotation with ace Julio Martinezto out for the next 2 months with an unspecified elbow injury.

6/1:

  • Opening Day arrives for the Uplantic Association! The Bears and White Sox start the 1931 season with a rematch of last year’s Windsor Cup Finals. The White Sox take the opener, 6-4. Deerborn’s Jorge Takato turns in 6 3-hit innings for the win.
  • Stags 1B Robert Jones, in his first at-bat of the year, pounds the first pitch he sees over the left field wall to give Roland a 4-3 walk-off win in the 10th inning.
  • Stars RH SP Gurr Gurr strikes out 10 in 5.1 innings as Delle shuts out the Herders, 3-0. The Stars struck out 17 total in the game as a team.
  • Miners RH SP Henry Brown leaves today’s game in the 3rd inning. The nature of the injury is unclear. We await diagnosis. The Miners go on to beat the Brothers, 6-4.

6/2:

  • Deerborn takes the 2-game sweep from Platte. This is somewhat of a statement coming out of the gate for Deerborn, as they begin the season without key components: Thery, Ogg, and Darnell. The injury bug bites again as the White Sox bring SP Jacob Hudson in to close out the 9th inning of today’s 10-5 win. He finishes the game, but complains of elbow soreness afterward. He is listed as day-to-day for the next 6 days.
  • Rivals RH SP Sonny Hernankez strikes out 13 over 7.2 innings in his much-awaited UA debut. Railey beats Redwood, 5-3.
  • Stags LHP Rich Smith goes the distance for the shutout, allowing only 2 hits and striking out 11 in the UA’s first complete game this year. CF Ramon Zuniga homers for the 2nd straight game to start the season. Today his home run is the only run of the game, a walk-off solo shot in the bottom of the 9th. Chargers SP Brahim Mujer gives up just 1 hit in 6 innings in the no-decision. Final: ROL 1, TAA 0.
  • Northsouth LF Rogne Sem has a hot start over his first 2 games. Today he ties the team record with 3 doubles in the game, driving home 5 runs as the Guardians beat the Trail Blazers, 6-3.
  • Salvation LF Curt Lawson has his 2nd straight game with a HR as the Brothers split the 2-game series in Lia Kompos with a 4-3 win.

6/3:

  • White Sox RHP Mathew Huertata fires a complete game shutout, striking out 11, as Deerborn clobbers Taawa, 10-0. RF Curt Sawyer goes deep twice in the win. This is Taawa’s 2nd straight game being shut out, and a sad outcome to their home opener as they debut their new uniforms.
  • Stars LHP Kevin Leroux notches 10 Ks in 5.1 IP. Delle downs Lia Kompos, 4-3.

6/4:

  • Stags CF Ramon Zuniga hits a pair of home runs as Roland wins their 4th straight, beating Cherricaw, 7-2.
  • Bears RHP Mayday Nunez leaves after 1 inning of relief with a leg injury as Platte drops the game to Redwood, 10-8. Nunez awaits diagnosis on his right leg.
  • Deerborn lays another beating on the Chargers, 12-3. The White Sox are 4-0.

6/5:

  • Miners SP Henry Brown learns he will miss 4 weeks with an oblique strain, after leaving in discomfort on Opening Day.
  • White Sox SP Jorge Takato strikes out 7 in a no-decision, as Deerborn edges Taawa, 2-1. The White Sox are 5-0; the Chargers fall to 0-5 with the sweep.
  • Stars 3B Mario Olivo goes 3 for 3 with 2 HR for 4 RBI as Delle puts it on Lia Kompos, 7-1.
  • Prissley CF Eric Garcika will miss five weeks with a biceps strain. Today’s final: SAL 3, PRI 2.
  • The Owls take 2 of 3 from the Bears, winning 5-2 today. It’s a slow 1-4 start to the year for the defending champions.

6/6:

  • Brothers RHP Austin Edwards allows 1 run over 7 innings as Salvation wins in Railey, 8-3.
  • The White Sox’ 7-run 7th inning helps them stomp Cherricaw, 12-4. Deerborn is 6-0.
  • The Stags ride 2 HR days from both Carlos Katamori and Jose Lia Tinta in their 10-1 win in the series opener against Delle. Ramon Zuniga is 3 for 3 with a double and his league-leading 5th HR. Stags starter Rich Smith strikes out 8 in the win. Although it is very early, this series could wind up having playoff implications when we look back at the end of the year.
  • RHP Will Shufflebottom records his first win in a Bears uniform, striking out 8 in Platte’s 6-1 victory at Craterview Park over the Guardians.

6/7:

  • Bears RP Orlando Nunez receives word that he will miss 6 weeks with a strained right hamstring.
  • Platte 1B Jack Garrett hits 2 solo homers to lift the Bears over Northsouth, 4-3.
  • Owls LF Ambroise Forestier hits 2 home runs, but Redwood falls to Taawa again, 7-6.
  • Roberto Tokorres gives the White Sox 7 innings of 3-hit ball as Deerborn opens 1931 with a 7-0 run, beating Cherricaw today, 1-0.
  • Brothers LF Curt Lawson hits 2 out in Railey in Salvation’s 5-3 win.
  • Mario Olivo goes deep twice and Antonio Teakowa is 3 for 5 with 4 RBI, a single short of the cycle, as Delle splits the series in Roland with a 10-2 rout.
  • Miners 1B Jaime Karrika goes 3 for 4 with a double and 2 HR in the 9-3 win over Prissley.
