Weekly Report: August 4, 1930

The Brothers are flying high with the return of Andy Thompson and a great week from Curt Lawson at the plate.

The Bears and White Sox retain leads in their divisions and the Brothers, Stags, Rivals, and Stars battle for elbow room in the Wild Card race.

UA News:

7/28:

  • Northsouth erupts for 10 runs in the 10th inning, defeating Prissley 14-4. Guardians 1B Cal Oluoch is 3 for 6 with 2 HR and 6 RBI.
  • Stags RHP Jose Verdier strikes out 10 in 7 innings, giving up just 1 hit, a home run by Miners 3B Hichem Colle. Final: ROL 4, LK 1.
  • Rivals LF Julio Kastro hits his 20th HR, SP Mark Lia Yorino strikes out 7 in 6 innings and gives up just 2 hits. Railey beats Platte, 3-1.
  • Deerborn RF Curt Sawyer hits his 23rd home run in the White Sox’ 5-3 win over Delle.
  • Brothers CF Andy Thompson hits a pair of home runs in his 3rd game back since spraining his left knee in Spring Training. Salvation beats Taawa 8-0 for the sweep.

7/29:

  • Stars LF Robby Hawk achieves the rare hat trick, going deep 3 times, in Delle’s 5-4 win over Roland.
  • White Sox righty starter Jacob Hudson leaves in the 2nd inning of today’s game in Cherricaw. The injury appears to be to Hudson’s throwing shoulder. He awaits diagnosis. Deerborn beats Cherricaw, 7-3.
  • Platte goes off for 19 runs, including a 9-run 5th inning, in their win against Prissley. Bears CF Stan Davis is 4 for 5 with a double, 2 HR, and 5 RBI. Platte C Eloi Rousset also has 2 HR in the rout. Final: PLA 19, PRI 2.
  • CF Andy Thompson stays hot since his return with another home run as the Brothers remain undefeated since the All-Star break, beating Northsouth, 4-0.

7/30:

  • White Sox starter Jacob Hudson is out for the rest of the year with a torn rotator cuff. The White Sox rotation remains one of the league’s strongest with Takato, Huertata, and Tokorres, but they will miss Hudson down the line.
  • Stags LHP Rich Smith throws 7 scoreless innings with just 3 hits and 7 Ks in the Stags’ 4-2 win over the Stars.
  • Miners 2B Jose Meza goes 5 for 5 and hits 2 HR as Lia Kompos pounds Taawa, 12-1. Miners SS Lorenzo Adom is ejected and suspended 4 games for making a lewd gesture at the home plate umpire after arguing a strike call.
  • Bears RHP Juan Kutakuto comes out after 8.2 innings in Platte’s 9-2 win over Prissley. He allows only 1 run on 4 hits.
  • Railey 2B Tim Rogers smacks 3 doubles in the Rivals’ 10-2 win over Redwood. Michael Mercer goes 7 scoreless innings for Railey.

7/31:

  • Miners 2B Jose Meza hits 2 HR in back-to-back games as Lia Kompos beats Taawa, 6-3, for the sweep. The Chargers have now lost 8 in a row.
  • White Sox 3B Rygh Ogg homers in his 3rd straight game as Deerborn beats the Herders, 3-1.
  • Bears RHP Julio Martinezto strikes out 9 and allows just 1 run in 7.1 IP. Platte sweeps Prissley with the 6-1 win.
  • Brothers 1B Curt Lawson has hit 4 HR in his last 4 games. Salvation beats Northsouth, 2-1, for the series sweep. Salvation remains undefeated since the All-Star break. CF Andy Thompson has hit in 6 straight games since debuting this season on July 26.

8/1:

  • The White Sox are home to both the Batter and Pitcher of the Month for July. Rygh Ogg is Batter of the Month: .366, 12 HR, 26 RBI, 25 runs scored in July. Mathew Huertata is Pitcher of the Month. In 4 starts, Huertata was 4-0, with 32 Ks and just a .164 BAA.
  • Brothers 1B Curt Lawson hits his 5th HR in 5 games, but Lia Kompos breaks Salvation’s 9-game winning streak, 6-2.
  • Herders SS Paul Kutakuto sprains his knee in Cherricaw’s 11-7 win at Roland. He is listed as day-to-day, but may be affected for a few weeks.
  • LF Adam Sullivan’s 3-run HR lifts the Bears over the Guardians in 11 innings. Final: PLA 8, NOR 5.

8/2:

  • Salvation LF Howard Tenney hits a pair of deep balls as the Brothers handily beat Lia Kompos, 11-2. Brothers RHP Jon Robertson strikes out 7 in just 4.2 innings.
  • Trail Blazers RHP Jeff Rogers notches 11 Ks in 7.2 IP as Prissley downs Redwood, 8-2.
  • Cherricaw SP Kip McCarty leaves the game after the 2nd inning with neck pain, but he is expected to make his next start. The Herders win their 3rd in a row, beating Roland, 7-4.
  • Platte LHP Craig Ogg strikes out 12 in 7 scoreless innings, giving up only 2 hits, as the Bears edge the Guardians, 3-2. Platte has won 5 in a row.
  • Stars 3B Ric Garcika hits 2 home runs in Delle’s 8-3 win over the Chargers. Taawa has lost 10 in a row. It’s their third 10-game losing streak of the year.

8/3:

  • The Stags beat Cherricaw, 5-2, to avoid the sweep. They trail Salvation by 1 game in the Wild Card standings.
  • Deerborn rallies to beat Railey, 10-5. White Sox RF Curt Sawyer hits his 24th HR, and Rivals LF Julio Kastro hits his 23rd. White Sox 1B Jorge Oko has hit a HR in 3 straight games.
  • Brothers 1B Curt Lawson is 3 for 5 with a HR and a triple. He has hit 6 HR in his last 7 games and 18 for the year. Salvation stomps Lia Kompos, 12-0. The Brothers currently hold the Wild Card spot by 1 game.
  • Justin Russell gives the Bears 8 innings and allows 2 runs on 4 hits. Platte beats Northsouth, 4-2. The Bears sweep the Guardians for their 6th win in a row and baseball’s top record at 43-15.
  • Stars RF Antonio Teakowa homers in his 3rd straight game, but Taawa manages to snap their losing streak, beating Delle, 3-1.
