1930 UA All-Star Game
Sapfoot Stadium, Taawa, Kandelria

Baseball’s best met last night at Sapfoot Stadium for the 3rd annual UA All-Star Game. Sapfoot Stadium saw its largest crowd of the year with 27,357 ecstatic fans in attendance. The West All-Stars would try to bounce back from last year’s 7-1 East win, hoping to regain the glory of 1928’s no-hit bid by the West pitchers.
Starting the All-Star Game were representatives from the league’s top two teams so far: RHP Mathew Huertata of the Deerborn White Sox and RHP Julio Martinezto of the Platte Bears. Martinezto got in trouble early for the West, walking Herders CF Ed DeMent to start the game. After moving to 2nd on Luke Lia Puedris’s single, the speedy DeMent was able to score on a double play ball. Rivals 1B Pedro Kopano then hit a solo shot to make it 2-0. The West got a run back in the 2nd when Brothers 2B Cliff Moyer scored from 1st base on a Francisco Aguilera double. However, Stags RF Albert Pentana made it 4-1 in the top of the 3rd with a 2-run blast off of Redwood lefty reliever Dave Barr. In the bottom of the 3rd, Owls RF Jorge Akil hit a solo shot to make it 4-2, East. A pair of doubles from Bears teammates Juan Tokorroes and Eloi Rousset made it 4-3 in the 4th, and Jorge Akil’s 2nd solo shot of the night tied the game in the 5th. Stags LF Jose Lia Tinta hit a solo shot in the 7th off of Northsouth RHP Jorge Seanez to put the East back on top, 5-4. Stars LHP David Rogers closed the game out, striking out Miners 2B Jose Meza in the bottom of the 9th with the tying run on 3rd base. The East finished with the win, 5-4, over the West.

Redwood Owls RF Jorge Akil’s 2 solo home runs earned the “Walloping Lefty From Min’tes’ki” All-Star MVP honors despite his team’s loss.

The 3rd UA All-Star Game was a resounding success. The league’s best will return for the 4th UA All-Star Game, scheduled for next July in Deerborn, Woodlyn.
