The Uplantic Association began Spring Training on Sunday in Amblint, Medland. Players will compete for the next five weeks to make pro rosters and coaching staffs and GMs will evaluate talent and plot a course for the year before the 1930 regular season begins on June 1.
News:
- UA: The Windsor Cup champs will have a slightly different look next season. The Deerborn White Sox are changing their uniforms for 1930, with new black hats and undershirts. “I like it. We look sharp,” said manager Jim Holt. “With the grey shirts it was kind of like ‘are we home or away?’” (1/1)
- NPL: The Reapers sign former Stags reliever LHP Ismael Rojatas. Rojatas appeared in 32 games for Roland in 1929 for an ERA of 1.30. (1/7)
- NPL: Right-handed starter Josh Konzalez signs a big 6-year contract with Petchon. He last appeared in organized ball in 1928 with just 11.1 innings for Lia Kompos in the UA. (1/8)
- UA: Cherricaw sends veteran 2B Juan Rokodriguez to Platte in return for young LHP prospect Joseph Bushe. (1/14)
- UA: Another big trade involving the Trail Blazers: The Bears receive starter LHP Craig Ogg from the Blazers in return for hot prospects Ernest Brown and Jose Chavekaz. (1/24)
- UA: Windsor Cup-winning LHP Tom Vickers signs with the Stars. Vickers did not play in the UA in 1929. (1/27)
- UA: The Stags are reportedly courting right-handed reliever Emery Jackson for a 1-year deal. Jackson reportedly upset several of his White Sox teammates in 1929 over an incident at a poker game involving several players. He has great stuff, but only pitched 16 innings for Deerborn in 1929. (2/2)
- UA: Taawa starter RHP Orlando Nunez learns that his torn shoulder ligament will likely keep him out throughout the 1930 season. Nunez says that he is trying to make the best of things, but is “feeling pretty low” about the news. (3/26)
- NPL: RHP Tim Coffman signs with the Canaries. Coffman had a 2.50 ERA in 57.2 innings for Redwood in 1929. (4/7)
- UA: After talks with the Stags fell through earlier this year, RHP Emery Jackson has now reportedly walked away from contract negotiations with the Brothers. (4/20)
- UA: Rumors have shifted from the Stags to the Brothers, and now to the White Sox for a possible landing spot for free agent RHP Emery Jackson, whose general air of greed and disagreeability seems to be a hindrance to him getting a deal a done. (4/24)
