The trade deadline was this Wednesday, August 28…basement dwellers are beginning to be mathematically eliminated with just over two weeks to go…
- Shannon Mukai, the commissioner of the new National Professional League set to begin play next year, put out an open call today for rule change ideas to implement in his new league. Fans can write to the NPL offices in Plains City with their ideas. Mukai says the full list of NPL teams and official league rules will be published in an article in Uplantic Sport after this year’s Windsor Cup Finals. (8/26)
- Northsouth continues to pack their roster for the last stretch, acquiring SS Len Butt from the Rivals in exchange for C Klaus Lier, SS John Byrne, and cash consideration. Butt is a talented utility defender and a middling hitter. It will be interesting to see how the Guardians utilize him. The Guardians also add another pair of free agent pitchers in Enrique Rokodriguez and Ramon Lia Taawa. (8/26)
- Railey wins the season series with Prissley, 6 games to 3. There is a well-known feud between the two team owners, going back to when they worked together with the Thundaru Juniors before the UA. Neither team is likely to make the postseason this year, but fans have still taken interest in the rivalry. It has been unofficially dubbed “The River Rivalry Series.” (8/26)
- Owls SP Will Shufflebottom hurls another gem with 8 Ks, zero walks, and 5 hits over 8 innings as the Owls sweep the Guardians. (8/26)
- Tempers flare in Tiny Sea: After giving up a game-tying HR to Brothers RF Walt Hardin in the 8th, Stars pitcher Jose Luna hits Mike Wilson squarely in the back with a fastball. Wilson charges the mound and the benches clear. Luna is suspended for 7 games, Wilson is suspended for 3 games. Brothers LF Steve Sheffield ended the game with a walk-off solo shot in the 15th. Final score: 3-2, Salvation over Delle. (8/26)
- Heated nemeses, the Rivals and Trail Blazers, swap a pair of pitchers today. The Rivals receive 30-year old George Webb and the Trail Blazers get 24-year old Millard Hunter. Prissley GM Roberto Hernankez said the teams were close to a bigger deal with bigger names, and that we might expect more business between the teams in the future, possibly before tomorrow’s trade deadline. Is this the beginning of healing their bad blood? (8/27)
- George Webb is electric in his debut for the Rivals with 12 Ks in 7.1 innings. He gets the win over Platte, 6-4. (8/28)
- Stars SP Gurr Gurr throws a 2-hit complete game shutout with 8 Ks as the Stars roll over the Guardians, 7-0. (8/28)
- The trade deadline has passed, but Northsouth’s shakeup goes on with two more free agent righties: John Petchon and Carlos Lia Kutando. Their late-season roster turnover strategy continues to baffle experts. (8/28)
- Jorge Takato wins his 12th straight decision in a complete game victory in which he strikes out 11 batters. Final: DEE 6, SAL 2. Deerborn takes 2 of 3 from Salvation and now leads Northsouth by 2 games for the wildcard. (8/29)

- Antonio Teakowa hits HRs number 34 and 35 for the Stars to extend his lead in the HR race to 5. Herders 1B Ralph August hits his 28th. Kip McCarty strikes out 11 in 7.1 innings, but the Stars unload on the bullpen beat the Herders, 8-2. Antonio Teakowa is 9 homers away from Juan Tokorres’s record of 43, set last season. Teakowa has just over two weeks left to reach the mark. (9/1)
- Deerborn and Northsouth split the first 2 games of their series. The White Sox hold a 2-game lead for the wildcard. They meet for the finale tomorrow in Deerborn. (9/1)
- Stags left-handed RP Ismael Rojatas leaves the game against the Owls after a single pitch with an injury to his throwing hand. It’s unclear if it’s a hangnail, a blister, or something more serious. The Owls win, 3-1. (9/1)
