Weekly Report: July 29, 1929

The season’s 2nd half is underway…The Guardians play both the Stars and White Sox this week, as the teams begin to bump elbows in pursuit of the playoffs…The Chargers hope to get free of their current 13-game skid, but must open the 2nd half against the mighty Stags…The White Sox will face the first place Brothers in addition their series with the Guardians…Northsouth CF Tom Katamori comes into this week with an 11-game hitting streak.

  • The White Sox got some bad news, as they learned SP Jacob Hudson will be out for around 5 weeks with shoulder inflammation. They are also still awaiting definitive word on SS Daniel Lia Yorino’s return. He has been out with a hamstring strain since June 20. (7/22)
  • The Chargers ride SP Orlando Nunez’s 8 Ks in 7 innings to break their 13-game losing streak. They beat the Stags in 11 innings on Joe Katakien’s walk-off sac fly. (7/23)
  • Rivals star LF Carlos Kayra left today’s game with back spasms. He is considered day-to-day. The Rivals beat the Bears 8-3. (7/23)
  • Miners SP Tim Farmer strikes out 9 and allows only 1 hit in 7 shutout innings as Lia Kompos shuts out the Trail Blazers, 2-0. (7/23)
  • White Sox LF Bob Hove’s hot hitting continues. He has another 2 HR day in Tiny Sea. The White Sox beat the Brothers 9-6. (7/24)
  • Stags LF Jose Lia Tinta goes 3 for 3 with 2 HR, but the Chargers take 2 of 3 from the Stags, winning another extra innings contest, 7-6. (7/25)
  • Northsouth sweeps the Stars. Delle has lost 5 in a row and 7 of the last 10. They are now 5 games out of a playoff spot. (7/25)
  • Brothers SP Whit Vorpoole comes out of today’s game against the White Sox after throwing only 4 pitches. Doctors say he will miss around 2 weeks with joint inflammation. Deerborn LF Bob Hove hit his 15th home run as the White Sox win 8-3. They take 2 of 3 from the Brothers to move into a first place tie with the Stags in the East, as well as a tie with Northsouth atop the wildcard standings. (7/25)
  • Salvation 3B Carlos Martinezto goes 2 for 3 with 2 HR and 6 RBIs in the Brothers’ 9-6 win over the Miners. (7/26)
  • SP Morgan Burnett pitches 8 scoreless innings, giving up only 4 hits as the Bears beat the Trail Blazers, 2-0. (7/26)
  • White Sox LF Bob Hove continues to dominate, hitting his 16th and 17th home runs, as the White Sox take game 1 of 3 from Northsouth, keeping pace with Stags for 1st place in the East. (7/26)
  • Roland 1B Francisco Kosgei leaves the yard twice in the Stags’ 6-0 win over the Owls. (7/26)
  • Stars 1B Yassine Joseph hits a pair of home runs in Delle’s 6-2 victory over Cherricaw, breaking Delle’s 5-game losing and Cherricaw’s 7-game winning streak. (7/26)
  • White Sox LF Bob Hove hits his 18th HR, but the Guardians win, 9-8. Deerborn SS Daniel Lia Yorino returns to the lineup today after missing over a month with a hamstring strain. Northsouth takes 2 of 3 games in Deerborn to take a 1-game lead for the wildcard. (7/28)
  • Railey SP Alfredo Hernankez leaves today’s game after 5 pitches. He is day-to-day with back tightness. The Rivals beat the Chargers, 7-2. (7/28)
  • Ramon Zuniga hits his 22nd HR of the year as the Stags sweep the Owls to hold onto 1st place in the East with a 2-game lead over the White Sox. (7/28)
  • Miners 3B Hichem Colle goes 3 for 5 with 2 HR and 5 RBIs and 2B Jose Meza has a 4 for 4 day in Lia Kompos’ 8-4 win in Tiny Sea. (7/28)
