Weekly Report: July 1, 1929

Voting began this week for the 1929 All-Star teams. Cast your ballot at the ballpark, or at participating picture houses and newsstands nationwide. Vote as many times as you like to put your favorite players on the All-Star rosters. The East and West All-Stars will meet July 21 at Stars Ballpark.

  • Rivals 1B Pedro Kopano hits 2 HR in Railey’s 7-3 win over Delle. (6/24)
  • White Sox SP Mathew Huertata’s brilliant start to the year continues. He pitches a 3-hit, complete game shutout as the White Sox defeat the Stags 4-0. (6/24)
  • Trail Blazers LF Juan Tumaini goes yard twice in Prissley’s 6-2 win against the Owls to keep pace atop the HR leaderboard with 10 HR this season. (6/24)
  • Roland SS Carlos Katamori sets the UA record with 9 at-bats in a single game, but the White Sox win a 16 inning marathon, 9-8, to complete the 3-game sweep of the 1st place Stags. (6/26)
  • White Sox SP Roberto Tokorres pitches 7 scoreless innings with 7 Ks as White Sox win 4th straight, 3-0 over Railey. (6/28)
  • Bears 3B Juan Tokorres hits a pair of home runs in Platte’s 5-0 win against the Owls. (6/28)
  • Miners LF Jesus Lia Taawa goes 4 for 5 with 2 HR and 2 doubles in 11-3 win over the Chargers. (6/29)
  • Miners 3B Hichem Colle has a 2 HR game, but the Miners lose a thriller in Taawa, 10-9. (6/30)
  • Last year’s Windsor Cup teams, the Salvation Brothers and Roland Stags, meet in a 3-game series in Tiny Sea. The Brothers win on a walk-off HR from 3B David Holmes to avoid a sweep on Sunday, narrowly retaining baseball’s best record at 19-9, with the Stags just behind at 18-10. (6/30)
  • White Sox SP Mathew Huertata is the UA’s Pitcher of the Month for June. He is 5-0 in 5 starts with a 1.36 ERA and 31 Ks so far this year. (7/1)
  • Brothers CF Andy Thompson wins Batter of the Month for June. A string of minor bumps and bruises couldn’t keep Thompson from 10 HR, 27 RBIs, and a .295 average to start 1929. (7/1)
