Weekly Report: September 3, 1928

  • Perfect storm! Five-way tie for wildcard lead between Northsouth, Delle, Prissley, Platte, and Railey. (8/28)
  • Rivals SP Mike Lia Yorino strikes out 15 batters in 8 IP while only giving up 2 hits and 1 earned run to keep the red-hot Rivals in first place in the wildcard race. (8/29)
  • Stars C Jon Garcika suspended 4 games for some choice words and gestures as he argues a called third strike. The Stars will have to make due with backup catcher Len Moan for the big weekend series against Prissley. Moan is hitting a paltry .178 for the year. (8/29)
  • Brothers CF Andy Thompson wins batter of the month for second straight month. In August, Thompson hit .341 with 16 HR, 36 RBIs and on OBP of .443. Will he be able to beat out Andy Bernard of Platte for the MVP award despite missing multiple weeks due to a back strain? (9/1)
  • Brothers host Stags for 3 games in final regular season meeting between the league’s top teams. Stags take 2 of 3 games against Salvation, but lose the season series 5 games to 4. The Stags and Brothers end the week tied for the league’s best record. If these teams meet again, it will be in the Windsor Cup Finals. (9/2)
  • Stags CF Ramon Zuniga has hit in 15 straight games. His next game will be his chance to tie the league record 16-game hit streak. (9/2)

Playoff Race:

  • With 15 games remaining in the regular season, the Brothers and Stags hold significant division leads. Barring major collapses, they will both be playing for the league’s top record and a playoff bye to the Windsor Cup Finals.
  • The Herders now hold the dubious distinction of being the first team in history to be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
  • The Stars currently hold a 1-game lead for the final playoff berth with the Bears, Guardians, and Rivals close behind. The White Sox and Trail Blazers had a rough week, but they are still very much in the race.
