Regular Season Comes to a Close

  • Bears sign big free agent SPs Julio Martinezto and Justin Russell just in time for all-hands-on-deck playoff race run as their ace pitcher Yassine Ramos awaits diagnosis of an apparent back injury. (9/10)
  • Brothers pitching combines for 1-hit shutout of Stars. RHP Javier Lia Undun gets the win. He’s 8-0. (9/10)
  • The Roland Stags make history as the first-ever UA division champs. They win the East Division pennant, improving to a league-best 59-34 record with their 7-1 thumping of the Rivals. (9/10)
  • SP Julio Martinezto brilliant in debut for Bears. He goes the distance: 9 IP, 8 Ks, 1 earned run on 5 hits. The Bears beat the Guardians 9-1 to remain 1 game behind the Stars for the wildcard spot. (9/11)
  • Tempers flare in Deerborn between the White Sox and Trail Blazers. The teams engage in a huge melee on the infield of Kostinsky Park as both teams’ playoff hopes are crumbling in the final week of the season. (9/11)
  • Stars RF Antonio Teakowa is tied for the league lead with 42 HR, but his season ends Tuesday after injuring his thumb. He finds out late Tuesday night that he tore a ligament. Aside from his 42 HR, Teakowa also leads Delle with 89 RBIs. This injury will certainly impact the Stars’ Windsor Cup chances. (9/11)
  • Bears sign SP Jose Elewa, their third blockbuster free agent starter signing in the last 3 days. They are going to total war for a playoff spot. (9/12)
  • Bears’ newest addition, SP Jose Elewa, shines in 7.1 IP, but the Stars beat the Bears 3-1 in 12 innings to widen their lead to 2 games in the wildcard race. (9/13)
  • Brothers get 2 HR from LF Curt Lawson, defeat Herders 9-6, improve to 58-37 on the year, and secure the 1928 West Division pennant. (9/13)
  • Bears SP Justin Russell has a solid outing in his second start for Platte, striking out 12 in 6 IP. The Stars win the game 3-2 in 12 innings, though, and the Bears are on the ropes. They now trail by 2 games with 3 games left. (9/15)
  • With a 7-2 win over the Miners, the Roland Stags secure the league’s best record. They will enjoy home field advantage in the best-of-7 Windsor Cup Finals. (9/16)
  • The Bears lose to the Owls 7-1 in the Sunday evening game and see their season come to a close. The Delle Stars stomped the Herders 10-1 earlier in the day, and with that, the Stars capture the wildcard. (9/16)
  • LF Curt Lawson seems to be picking up the slack offensively for Salvation with Andy Thompson out of the lineup. He won UA Player of the Week with an incredible .545 average, 5 HR, and 10 RBIs this week. This surge comes at an opportune time for the Brothers as a best-of-5 series against the Stars awaits on Thursday. (9/17)
  • Bears CF Andy Bernard wins the batting crown with a final average of .375. He played in every game this season for Platte. He collected 125 hits, just 1 behind teammate Ronald Pass for the most in the UA. Bernard also walked more than any other player in the league with 86 BB. (9/19)
  • Bears 3B Juan Tokorres wins the home run race with 43 HR. He edges out the injured Stars RF Antonio Teakowa by one. Tokorres also leads the UA with a staggering 108 RBIs. (9/19)
