Weekly Report: September 10, 1928

  • Guardians 1B Cal Oluoch has a 3 HR game as Northsouth beats Deerborn to keep pace in the wildcard race. (9/3)
  • Stags CF Ramon Zuniga’s hit streak ends at 15 games, one short of tying the record. (9/3)
  • Bears ace SP Yassine Ramos left the game with an unknown injury. His diagnosis is pending. (9/4)
  • Bears CL Gurr Fisk will miss the rest of the year with a torn ligament in his elbow. He has 19 saves for Platte this year. The Bears will miss him out of the bullpen down the final stretch. (9/5)
  • Another suspension for the Delle Stars. This time it was SS Bob Middleton who was thrown out for arguing his strikeout last night at Gateway Park. After being ejected for his words, Middleton seemed calm as he returned to the dugout before marching angrily back onto the field to confront the umpire again, scattering his equipment and garbage from the dugout as he went. Today he is suspended 4 games for his outburst. (9/5)
  • Arch nemeses Rivals and Trail Blazers meet in Prissley for final series of the season. After rumors of bad blood and possible fisticuffs earlier in the season between team owners Wesley Sullivan (RAI) and Jason Conner (PRI), the two appeared on the field together before Thurdsay’s game to accept personal awards recognizing their work at the Thundaru Juniors youth team prior to the UA. Both owners were apparently absent from the season finale between the teams on Saturday. This is the first Blazers home game that Jason Conner has not attended all season. The Rivals take the final game in Prissley to win the season series 5 games to 4. (9/8)
  • Brothers visit Bears for last series of the regular season. The west’s top 2 teams are both playing for playoff positioning. The Brothers take 2 out of 3 in the series. (9/8)
  • Brothers CF Andy Thompson will be out for 2-3 weeks, this time with a hamstring strain. This could mean he’ll miss the rest of the Brothers’ season depending on the pace of his recovery and team’s performance in the playoffs. A crushing blow, to be sure, but the Brothers are still a formidable team. (9/8)
  • Stars RF Antonio Teakowa takes Salvation pitching deep twice to help the Stars beat the Brothers 9-5. Teakowa takes the lead in the HR race with 42 dingers. The Stars get a little breathing room in the wildcard race with a 2 game lead. (9/9)
  • Bears SP Yassine Ramos leaves after the first inning with a recurring injury somewhere in his torso. A diagnosis is still pending. (9/9)

Playoff Race:

  • Despite controversies, the Delle Stars are in sole possession of the wildcard berth by 2 games with just 8 games left in the season.
  • The Stags become the first team to clinch a playoff spot. They lead the Brothers by 2 games for the league’s best record and the right to an automatic bye to the Windsor Cup Finals.
