Weekly Report: August 13, 1928

  • Bears take 2 of 3 games from Stars, as the two teams compete for the wildcard playoff spot, just behind Prissley. UA’s top hitter Andy Bernard goes 3 for 4 with 3 doubles in game 3 for Platte. (8/10)
  • Stags’ Gurr Engh, Ramon Zuniga, and Jose Lia Tinta each hit 2 HR in 12-4 rout of White Sox. (8/10)
  • Brothers CF Andy Thompson starts August by winning Player of the Week while playing with a sore shin and what turned out to be the beginnings of a head cold. He hit .458 with an OBP of .581 with 13 RBIs. He is at the center of the MVP conversation despite time missed due to a recurring back strain. (8/13)
  • Playoff race heats up with just over a month left in the regular season. The Brothers and Stags are almost certainly a lock for the playoffs, but the wildcard spot is up for grabs. The Trail Blazers hold a precarious 1-game lead. (8/13)
