1928 UA Season Preview

Inaugural Season Predictions

Uplantica Sport

May 28, 1928

Our office is abuzz with anticipation for the inaugural Uplantic Association baseball season that begins this week all over the country. This is the first season of UA baseball ever, so anything could happen. We polled our writers to find out their thoughts on the season ahead. Here are some of our predictions for this historic summer.

Standings Predictions

The Brothers and Stags look formidable in their divisions. While their offenses are nothing to scoff at, pitching looks to be the factor that will put these two teams at the top of the standings. The Rivals and Stars may offer a challenge to the Stags, but we expect the Stags to prevail in the end in the UA East.

We expect the Roland Stags and Salvation Brothers to meet in the Windsor Cup Finals. It will be a hard fought series, but in the end, the Stags will prevail as Windsor Cup Champions!

League Leader Predictions

Based on our observations during spring training, these are the players we think will make the biggest impact this year.

Top Hitters

There are a lot of great batsmen in this league, but for our money, Andy Bernard of the Platte Bears stands out from the pack. He may not hit a lot of home runs, but what he lacks in power, he makes up for in smarts at the plate and speed on the bases. Unfortunately, the Bears team won’t do much to support him.

Andy Thompson of the Brothers, Albert Pentana of the Stags, and Carlos Kayra of the Rivals should be at the top of the league as they lead strong rosters.

Antonio Teakowa is a monster power hitter who will help keep the Stars in competition for the UA East pennant with plenty of home runs and RBIs.

Top Pitchers

We expect pitching to make the difference in a highly competitive league. The Stags have two of the best starters in the league on their roster. Look for Rich Smith and Jose Verdier to lead the league in strikeouts while they lead the Stags to the Windsor Cup.

Julian Rault of the Brothers and Kevin Leroux of the Stars will keep hitters at bay this season.

Awards

MVP

Carlos Kyra of the Rivals is our pick for MVP.

Pitcher of the Year

While Verdier and Smith will be dominant for the Stags, our pick for Pitcher of the Year is Kevin Leroux.

Manager of the Year

There are a lot of great managers leading UA teams, but while the Stags and Brothers will be the most dominant teams, our pick for Manager of the Year is Colin Thompson of the Rivals.

There you have it. We wish all the teams, coaches, players, and fans the best of luck as they chase the Windsor Cup this summer!
